Have you ever had a crush on an online friend but not really took it seriously because you knew you'd never meet them. And then you found out you'd meet them in person (because they're moving to your area) and your first thought was: But I'm fat... they won't like me once they see me.

Yeah, when I was 16 I met this guy online who was a friend of a friend. He didn't have any photos on his FB, and he lived a long way away at college so I didn't know what he looked like. I sort of had a crush on him for a year, because he was really nice and we had great conversations ... then he said "I'm in town, can I come see you?" So 21 year old him comes over to my house and I'm just going to say, he was gorgeous. Bright blue eyes, dark hair, baseball player build ... and there's me with a terrible haircut and at that awkward 16 year old stage.
I told him I liked him a few months later. He said "It's nice to be liked" ... and we drifted apart. Probably for the best, considering the age difference at the time.0 -

I met my husband from online dating, sure you are going to worry. BUT..would you rather worry and never know...or worry until you meet him then find out he is into you. You will never know unless you go through with it.0

Not a crush, but I met my best friends online. Now we're planning to meet up in Ireland next August and I'm scared to death for the same reasons: I'm fat, they won't like me.
Thus why I'm losing weight. I think if we weren't meeting I'd probably be maintaining now, really working on intuitive eating and recovering from bulimia.0 -
I did when I was much younger (17 or so, I think). He was a guy I'd met through some forum, but he lived out of state. Many months into our friendship I was traveling to his state and he asked if I'd stop by his work and meet him. I did stop by just briefly. He was a sweet guy and we stayed friends after that, talked on the phone, wrote to each other, etc. But it eventually fizzled and we lost touch.
No online crushes since I met my husband. I know better than to engage in behaviors that build those kinds of relationships. I'd be lying if I said I've never chatted with people I find attractive (physically and/or personality), but I don't feel any desire to do things that would take a relationship anywhere beyond platonic. That's just how I operate, and I realize that others are different.
As to your situation, I'd say meet him but be safe about it. And don't worry about what he will think. He's probably worrying about what you'll think of him. That's the whole point of you two meeting each other!
