Hi I am new and would like some friends to talk to and some salt free recipes for someone who doesn't like to cook and lives alone. I am not motivated to exercise and am having a hard time accepting my diagnosis, but am willing to try so here I am. thanks...

I'm sorry about your diagnosis. My husband had interstitial nephritis several years ago, and I understand what you're dealing with when it comes to limiting/eliminating your sodium intake. Fill up your shelves with Mrs. Dash - lots of different varieties! Also, there are other salt-free seasonings you can try. Experiment with other herbs & seasonings and make your own combinations also. And I discovered some wonderful very, very low sodium salad dressings - Drew's or Chef Drew's. They're so good for salads, or marinades. Balsamic vinegar is a godsend, too. Lots & lots of flavor.
The more "clean" your diet, the better off you will be. We ate fresh everything every day, and really ate better than before or since, because we ate so little processed food. That's really the easiest way to insure that you're limiting your sodium - just make sure your food is fresh.
Be very wary of "low-sodium" salt substitutes. They are usually very high in potassium, which is probably something else you need to watch out for.
Good luck to you. It's a challenge, but it can be done!0 -
We've been there done that with our son...kidney disease, dialysis, and 15 yrs later post transplant he is healthy as a horse! He was diagnosed at birth and transplanted at 2. So it can be a very positive outcome. (Not saying you will need dialysis or transplant). Maybe you could look at it as a "New Start" to eating healthy!
{hugs} to you. I do remember how hard "D" day was. If you wanna talk, I am here for you.0 -
