Hello All,
My annual checkup pegged me at 272 lbs. My wife keeps increasing my life insurance and collecting singles vacation brochures. So I sorta took the hint. (I was kidding about the life ins. and travel brochures, but she might!)
I eat too much, I don't exercise enough to break a sweat and you know, I'm just plain lazy. The annual check-up was a slap in the face and made my extra chin wobble. So we're going at it very hard core, but intelligently. The doctor's goal for me was a pound a week, MY goal for me is 52 lbs. in 2010. They're close enough to keep me on track and if I disappoint my doctor, well, it'll be in the right direction at least.
After one week of using the tools on here, I dropped 3 lbs. This has been entirely a diet change, mostly in quantity and not in quality. Exercise kicked in yesterday, so we'll see where that goes. My calorie goal based on MFP is 1950 calories per day, while I've been aiming (and achieving!) 1500 calories per day. I'll post more as it comes, or you can read my page and follow along. Be sure to bring a sense of humor, as it's the best part of life!
Glad to be here,
Doug

I only weigh 138 and I eat 1900 cals/day without exercise to maintain my weight, there is no way you should eat less than that.
Please eat all the calories assigned by MFP, as it already has a deficit for you to loose your goal amount of weight. Going under this amount for an extended period of time may cause your body to go into starvation mode (slower metabolism). Your doctor wanted you to loose 1 pound per week as it is a healthy amount over time.
When you log your exercise be sure to eat most, if not all, of the calories earned through exercise.0 -
Welcome Doug! Reality checks are hard to take sometimes huh? Make sure you get in your 8 glasses of water a day and all your servings of fruits and veggies. Be careful with your sodium intake as well, it's a hard number to keep down!
Good luck!0 -
Thanks for the advice! Even I can understand that logic.
Sincerely,

Thanks Allie, there's water in beer, right? So 8 beers a day? I can cut down to that.
Seriously though, the sodium amounts in everything are off-the-wall! That's been my biggest impetus to drink water, to flush as much of that out as possible. For myself, other than the occasional fried egg or baked potato (each about once a month?) are the only times I add salt to anything. We don't even have a salt shaker. Yay us!
Thanks for the support,

Welcome to MFP! I'm glad you've had a great start on your journey!0
