Can bread lead to headaches?

As the title suggests, I'm finding that mainly when at work and after eating a roll or sandwich I get a chronic headache. Could it be I'm gluten or yeast intolerant? Could the bread be the cause, as when I eat something different I don't suffer.

Ha ha.
I see wheat you did there.
ETA: Maybe I'm just a gluten for punishment, but I expected more from this thread.
ETAM: Seriously, what does it take to get a rise out of people around here?
ETAEM: I guess I'll just loaf around here until someone picks this thread back up.0 -
Of course it could!
So stop eating it and then see if you keep getting headaches! Then you'll know!0 -

Sounds like a gluten intolerance. Cut out bread and read up on all the things gluten is in and see if you remove them slowly if it helps you. Headaches are one of the major symptoms.
I just recently discovered I'm most likely gluten intolerant as well. Changing my diet and cutting it out has been amazing and I feel better already.
Good luck.
PS -Food shopping with a gluten intolerance costs more dough, but it's worth every penne.0 -
I recently found I'm gluten-sensitive. I read an article on it, found I had a lot of the same symptoms, and then stopped eating wheat bread for 48 hours. The change was miraculous. Can't hurt to see.0

I don't know what your medical history is and I'm not a doctor so I'm not going to say whether or not you have an intolerance, I'm just going to offer you some simple advice to see if you can isolate the problem.
Prior to being diagnosed to having allergies to cow's dairy, egg and sulphites (preservatives ranging from 220 to 230) I found keeping a diary of everything I ate (which you would already be did using MFP) and eliminating items for a day or two to see the effects useful. It was this way that I self diagnosed my egg allergy prior to my allergist confirming it and also that the consumption of sulphites triggered my migraines as well as give me a nasty rash.
If you are thinking that it may have something to do with yeast maybe buy a bread that doesn't contain any or if you are really up for it google recipes for yeast free breads (one example would be a recipe for Australian Damper). After if you still feel ill try and eliminate the gluten. Also when shopping for food, and I really can't stress this enough, prior to putting them in your trolley or basket take the time and read the ingredients listed on the package!
Hope this helps and if you still have concerns try talking to your Doctor about it.0 -
Definitely try cutting the gluten out of your life entirely and see if it helps.
Sometimes you just have to go against the grain to figure out what works best for you.0 -

It's not that simple. Manufacturers do not put gluten on the ingredients! It's in the wheat. It's in rye. It's in barley. It's on chewing gum, cake icing, beer, soy sauce, yogurt, dried fruit, teriyaki sauce... yes, it's pretty disturbing how they hide gluten in foods... and many of those aren't even "bread" products.....
Gluten is everywhere.....0 -

Gluten is everywhere.....
I understand what you are saying but the point is THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES. Many companies now are making products such as flour, pastas and bread that are gluten free.
Also I know for a fact that here in Australia, and I do believe this really should be the standard for all countries due to the number of people who have allergies/intolerances, manufactures by law need to include ALL ingredients and state whether there are any common allergens or if there are in traces of those allergens in their products and I can assure you that if a product contains gluten manufactures do highlight this. There can be severe penalties for manufacturers who fail to comply with this law.
Now this law didn't come about overnight. However through people power and the rising number of people being diagnosed and treated with allergies/intolerances, especially adults and children who suffer from anaphylaxis, the government realised that there needed to be a standard for food in this country.0 -
I have a good friend who suffered from migraines for years until he finally tried eliminating gluten. Headaches disappeared. Altho there is a small percentage of people who have Celiac disease, which is the true gluten allergy, with the changes in the way that wheat is processed in the past generation, more and more people have a sensitivity to gluten. Headaches are one of the top symptoms. You might be able to simply eliminate wheat flour from your diet and that will take care of the headaches. The small amounts of gluten hidden in many foods, may not bother you as much. If the headaches come on right after you eat bread, then it seems pretty obvious that might be the culprit.0

I suffer food triggered migraines. I had to do a lengthy elimination diet to find out what was causing my migraines. In my case, it's more food preservatives and additives than any one type of food. An example is Sour Cream. I can only eat Daisy brand sour cream, all of the others have additives that cause my headaches.
Research rotation and elimination diets and see if one of those will pin point what you are having an issue with.
One of my favorite books is A Migraine Sufferer's Cookbook by Diane Meredith Bentlet. It helped me a great deal!
You may be reacting to the YEAST in the bread and not so much to the gluten. An elimination diet would tell you which it is.0 -

Try cutting out wheat, rice in any form, corn in any form including seasonings & condimets for a while and see how you feel. You just might be allergic otherwise have your thyroids tested.0

Any way you slice it, there's way too many puns in this thread.0

Food can be a trigger for migraines, and whether it's a trigger and what is a trigger varies by person.
So the short answer to your question is yes.0
