Could it be my IUC(Mirena)?

I have been posting a bit on here about lacking motivation and will power and just crazy binging on food.

I got the Mirena about a month ago, these are some of my symptoms:

extreme fatigue
painful joints(especially knees)
back and neck pain
pain on my heels(almost unbearable at times)
extreme irritability
no sex drive......like zerooooo(tmi but haven't thought about sex in the past month)
spacing out-I catch myself just staring at walls for hours like my brain shuts off
forgetting things
depression
anger
extreme hair loss
headaches
short of breath
acne
no energy(even after 3 to 4 cups of coffee)
no self control
no desire to enjoy my kids or husband....i just rather lay in bed all day

My husband is very upset with how i am acting but it wasn't untill last night i came across an article about Mirena and many women had the same symptoms. I feel like i am 60 yrs and im only 23(atleast what i'd imagine 60 felt like) I had a baby 4 months ago so i was thinking it was post pardom but idk...painful joints?? I use to catch a second wind around 4 pm and even a thrid at like 8 pm....just naturally i was always just going now i can sleep for day and can barely put on my makeup.

I hope someone has had this experience and could help me out....

Thanks

    anyone??
  • I had that same IUD in for 4 years before having it removed to get pregnant with my son, loved it so much I'm waiting to get the same IUD placed again. Granted everyone's body reacts differently but I had no negitive side effects. I could easily forget I had it. Maybe you are having a bad reaction to it. I can't take the birth control pill because it makes me very I'll. Maybe that's the case here with you.

Talk with your doctor. I'm more concerned about the shortness of breath - may be nothing but could be something. It could still be PPD - also a reason to speak with your doctor. Good luck friend! Hang in there!
  • Hi,

I had mine lat year and had exactly the same symptoms as you for few months, I even had to go back to the specialist just after few days bec of an alarming cramps on my belly:-( but they said it's normal...

After 2-3 months, I actually felt better, I normally have tanty during periods and massive mood swing which was better after Mirena:-)

Because you just had a baby, it could be part of it,.. I say talk to your GP and see if there's something wrong or maybe this will come to pass...

Don't focus on the negatives:-) Enjoy your bub and try think positive .. I suffer depression as well when I had my youngest child , thought I was going crazy... just keep on going:-) you're GP should be able to help you out.

Hey - Mirena has the same hormone as the depo shot - you should check out reviews.

I have been on depo - and the symptoms sound exactly like what I had. I would highly recommend you get the IUD taken out - go with a copper one. symptom free for me for over a year! :D I love it.

My wife had it removed because it made her feel so terrible.

I have it over 2 years and have had no side effects at all.

Reading through these though it looks like everyone reacts differently to it so would definitely go back to your doctor x

My advice.... if your looking for something on the internet you are bound to find it. Google those symptoms and you could find out that those are symptoms of cancer or some other horrible disease... but that doesn't mean you have it. just like googling harmful mirena side effects doesn't mean you are experiencing these symptoms just because of the mirena. You just had a baby and your hormones are still getting back to normal and the mirena or any other hormone birth control is going to mess you up in some way. I have the mirena and while I've experienced those symptoms... i had them before the mirena. a lot of the symptoms you have are because you are either obese or overweight. check your BMI. I got the mirena placed well over a year after having my baby so I know that it wasn't the mirena causing it. i honestly was depressed. But talk to other moms of 4 month olds or moms in general and ask how often they are wanting to have sex or having sex... it just ain't happening! what kind of foods are you eating? Try eating clean. Google it. There is a ton of information on people getting rid of all of their symptoms by changing to eating clean. If you have netflix watch food inc, and Fat, Sick, Nearly Dead. I am a binger too and I know it is hard but I also find that eating clean stops me from binging and keeps me happy. also look at this sample menu of eating clean. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/jamie-eason-livefit-trainer-phase-1-day-1.html Good luck!

    Thanks for your replies.

Nrokita- I've been telling myself its ppd but before mirena and after my baby my sex drive was threw the roof. I've never had problems with it before. I am very over weight but even when I was preg(much heavier than now) working 50+ hours which included walking about 8 miles a day. I was never in this much pain. I refuse to believe all this could happen in 3 weeks naturally.

I made an appt to get it removed.....I dont think the long term effects will be worth it. I just really hope I can find a birth control method thats truly works for me
  • I would never deter anyone from getting the mirena but it DID NOT work out for me. I only had it for 3 months and I felt bloated ALL the time, I was soo gassy, my hair was brittle and my skin was VERY dry like no matter how much water I drank, it didn't help. I was also very tired and I take multivitamins and green smoothies everyday. How could it be? When I tell you that I felt a little relief AS SOON as I had it removed!!! OMG

I, too researched online and seen that I had the symptoms so many other women had. It has been about 1 1/2 months and I am back to myself. I have energy and I feel great.

    This is just my experience.
  • PS. Doctors will try HARD to discourage you from removing it. I do not know why, it's your body. I had to tell my physican 3x that I was certain I wanted it removed.

I had an IUD in for almost 2 years. I had it taken out on Tuesday. I have experienced significant weight gain, eczema flare ups, mood swings and bad acne. I am the heaviest I have been in my life and decided that it was time to get rid of what I believe after doing a little research is causing these problems.

Thank goodness my doctor didn't push me to not remove it.

I will again use the fertility awareness method as my birth control, it worked for my for many years. Good luck to you in your decision.
