This is probay a common question, but I would like to have a topic about it and hope to get some support and answers to help me stop pigging out... I especially binge when I am depressed. I do not purge/puke when I binge and don't plan to. What are some things I can do to just stop myself and have the self controll I need?

I know I need to find a new way of dealing with stress. Something else to live for besides food. This would require a shy, insecure gal (me) to try something new. Or just keep binging? The stress doesn't go away. I have to change my response to it. I would also be interested in new stuff people have tried.0

I'm such an emotional eater too. It's hard to remember/realize when you want to eat that it's not going to make those problems go away. Just try to limit the damage - remember to track everything....try to find some way to de-stress.0

I found that journaling when I get stressed or depressed it helps me release my emotions that way. Everytime you feel like reaching for food enter something in your journal. Also, ranting or raving on mfp page really helps release your frustrations and get real-time feedback to your entry.0

So you already know why you're binging. Try to figure out what it is you're trying to avoid or deal with, and start working through the problem instead of avoiding it or stuffing food to try and ignore your feelings.
It may help to mentally, or put pen to paper, figure out the pros and cons of binging, or the pros and cons of not binging.
Does it actually make you feel good? Does it help you deal with problems? Does it get you what you want or who you want to be?
The other issue could be physical. You need to ensure you're getting enough calories, and not on such a calorie restriction that drives you to binging.0 -
eating all the binge food and then not buying anymore. it's hard to eat something that you dont actually have0

Just stop, walk away for a bit. Wait a few minutes.
Usually by then youll feel guilty or get back your control.
If not, then youre out of luck. Best bet is to try avoid the situation by not being around foods you cant have.
But if youre gonna have some, no matter what, try to control your portions. Put the rest away if you can, or give it to someone else.0 -
Emotional eating is pointless eating. Walk away from the kitchen. Get outside and walk, or go and brush your teeth. If you are not genuinely hungry the craving should pass. Although if you want to eat crap its unlikely you are hungry. If an apple won't satisfy you its likely you want to eat for emotional reasons. Think about it. Is it worth doing? Is it worth the guilt trip afterwards? Is not! I know as this is something i deal with too.0
