Feeling gloomy and unmotivated!

I am supposed to do the Zombie Stomp this Saturday... Four miles and 6-8 obstacles, PLUS zombies on the prowl. I have been been working out and walking 3 miles a day at the gym until the last two weeks. then work and business stuff has gotten in the way. Now it is this Saturday (two days away!!!) and my Zombie Stomp partner bailed on me for a Halloween party. I paid for our entrance and we have worked out together to get ready.

Now everyone I know is just kind of going, "Can you actually RUN 4 miles yet?" Um, no. But I have lost a lot of weight and inches and I have been really excited about it. Now everyone thinks I should just kind of "skip it".

Now I am feeling discouraged. What do I do?

This journey can get very lonely. If you are dropping out because your friend bailed on you then you will do the same with this whole journey. This journey to get healthy has to be because you want it and you have to do it for YOU and no one else. There will be plenty of support at the Zumba event without your friend.

I always say I can get my friends to go to movies, a trip, dinner, lunch, etc but when it comes to sticking to a healthly life program I can not get the same support.

I hope you make the best decision for YOU.:flowerforyou:

I don't think you should "skip it". I wouldn't look at it as some big event that you must perform well in, just go out there and have fun. If you can't do the 4 miles, then oh well. But you might surprise yourself! You'll never know unless you try it! :)

Go out there and have fun with it. Then at NEXT years Zombie Stomp, when you've made all of this fantastic progress, you will destroy the 4 miles and look back and be glad you did it this year so you could see how far you've come.

I would go for it. You've trained too hard to stop now. Don't drop out because your friend did. I believe that you can do this and should. You'll have fun with it and meet some new people along the way. Your finish time doesn't really matter, just keep going.

Thank you guys for your comments. I AM going to go. Even i I die halfway through and get eaten by zombies, I have totally looked forward to this and worked hard!! If I didn't go I would just be bailing on myself just like my friend did.

So I am going to do it!!

If you aren't doing this for you, you're doing it for the wrong reasons, no matter what those reasons may be. I would go out, do my best, have a great time, and show them I can do whatever I set my mind to do. Ultimately, it is up to you. But be sure it is what YOU want to do.

After participating in the Warrior Dash for the first time this summer, I can assure you that MANY MANY people show up just to participate. I was there to challenge myself and got uber irritated when people clogged up the trail through the woods by walking cuz it was up hill!

All that to say. . . GO! You will NOT be the only one who can't run constantly for 4 miles. But, you WILL have a ton of fun and challenge yourself! Don't worry about the easily irritable folks like I was. We can make adjustments and have fun just the same. Go and exeperience the boost you'll get from doing this event. When you cross the finish line. . .you'll be so glad you showed up!!

what an amazing race! All you can do is go, do your best, have a BLAST and then tell all the "oh you should skip it"s what an amazing time you had.

There is often no better reward for the hard work you're putting in than being able to respond to those who tell you you can't with a smile and an "oh, but I did!"

first off you need to find some better "people who know you's" ...and go and make new friends and have a blast! Zombie Walks are all about the fun!!
  • I think you should go do it and have a lot of fun. Don't worry about the end goal of finishing 4 miles. Chances are you will do that anyway. You have worked hard for this event and have been looking forward to it. I think you will regret it if you do not do it because you know you can do this.

Who cares what everyone else thinks. You are the only one that can bring you to your goal. I am kinda baffled that you would even listen or let people tell you, you should skip it. Its really just for fun anyway. 4 miles is really short. :/

GO! If I weren't 8 hours away, I would drive up there and take your friend's place! These things are tough, but fun! And Saturday afternoon you will have the satisfaction and pride of completing this! NOTHING feels better than that! HAVE A GREAT TIME!

Definitely let us know how the event went. Sounds like fun.
  • As I read this I'm becoming more and more inspired by you! I think you should definitely go and I know you're going to Rock It! I have found that sometimes it's actually better to go into something like that alone because then you are forced out of your comfort zone and you get to push yourself extra hard and make some new friends!

I can't wait to hear how it turns out! I'm cheering you on from Buffalo!

You say "SCREW YOU!!!" to your nay sayer friends. Don't be discouraged!! You can do this and you will be so proud when you do!! 4 miles isn't as long as it sounds like... I ran that far with my kids one day not realizing that we were going that far... I never would have tried if I had know up front. Don't let the number get in your head... you can do this!

I want to hear all about it when you're done! Have fun!

You should go. You've worked too hard to stop now. Just prove your friends wrong, that will be a great feeling.

And besides that, when the real zombie apocalypse happens, you'll be ready. Your friend, on the other hand...well, when you see here shambling up crying about brains, just run away and laugh!

Don't skip it! I was a zombie at an event similar to yours last saturday and there were several people who ran past us zombies and then walked... until they saw me behind them chasing them! Don't sweat it, go have fun!

I would not skip it. I've been in the exact same situation, though it wasn't a Zombie run. You will have a HUGE sense of accomplishment when you finish it and you will not regret doing it. But you will regret NOT doing it, especially if its paid for. Go for it, even if you walk it!

LOL!! This is great practice for the real deal :)

OP - You will meet interesting people there. And just a note, you don't have to run the whole thing!!! Trust me, I run/walk/jog/run/walk those things all the time. No one will judge you if you walk or go around an obstacle. AND some people help each others through the obstacles.

    Have fun!!
