Getting a new tattoo

So, I've been waiting on my tattoo appointment for over a month with an amazing tattoo artist in my area, it is on the 15th of this month. However, my husband is having his annual christmas party on Dec 9th and I wanted to start 30ds this week so I can look really good for the party, question, this will be a large piece on my stomach/side/ribs, it won't be finished in one visit. Will this interfere with my workout? Will I have to NOT workout? Because I would really prefer to just not get the tattoo if I can't finish the shred appropriately. What do you guys think? Any personal experience?

I had my belly button pierced and a back piece done in the middle of Insanity. As long as you don't wear clingy clothes that will rub and irritate the healing process then it will be fine. Sweat and vigorous moving WILL NOT affect it....this is what my friend/tattoo artist told me! Thanks for the ink fever BTW!0

I got a tattoo in May and worked out the next day, I don't think it should affect it. Just make sure to shower off after and keep it clean. Good luck with the Shred, I loved it!0

Cool! Super happy to hear this! I've been wanting this Tattoo forever!!!! I would really hate to have to cancel, not to mention my $100 deposit I've already paid!0

I recently got a tattoo from my bum cheek all the way up to to under my bra line. I regularly run, and I was not able to do so for a few days after. When you get to sweating, it does and will burn, not to mention be sore. This is just based on my experience is all.0

I agree with the recent post. As long as you don't have something rubbing up against the tattoo..your workouts should be fine. Get the tattoo...
*now I want one...damn*0 -
I don't think so. I did karate classes throughout the weeks I was getting my back done and no problems. Like the other person said, I just wouldn't wear tight workout clothes that would irritate it.
The only don't I remember specifically is exposing it to the sun, i.e. tanning, swimming, etc.0 -
I had a tattoo up the side of my foot Saturday night and taught body step & body pump Sunday evening.
Just lubricate it well (I used bepanthen), if you're worried about rubbing, cover with cling film. After you've worked out, wash and cream it as usual.0 -
Hell, I'm home alone, I'll work out butt naked if I have too!0

*resists urge to get new tattoo**
you should be fine no clingly clothes and don't go running any obstacle races you should be good :flowerforyou:0 -
I had a tattoo above my ankle and worked out just fine afterward. I covered the area so no dirt/dust would get to it from the naaaaasty gym floor. *Shudder*0

I couldn't work out after getting mine done, but mine starts by my toes, covers the top of my foot, and goes half way up the side of my calf....so no tennis shoes for me! Good luck!!0

ive never had one but that will be my present when i get all this weight off, but i think that the sweating will burn a little but it all depends on your tolerance for that type of pain and wear loose clothing ...but you should be fine !0

Everyone is different..you will need to gauge it for yourself when you are done, after some of my tattoo appts I have been able to work out..and others and I have not been able to until 2nd day after, I have a very large piece and for that one I definately had to skip the same day/next day workout. Just see how you feel and take it from there!0

You said it will take multiple appointments so he will prob just do the outline the first anyway. The outline will heal quickly without color and you should be in almost no pain. Keep it clean and wash after working out....no worries.0

I say keep it clean - and Moisturized because you don't want to be tearing any of the scabbing off... You should be good0

Just apply your aquaphore before and shower as soon as possible after sweating. You'll be fine. I just had a chest piece done, and began working out again 2 days after, I didn't have any of the burning from sweat because of the protection from the aquaphore, it really helps.0

That is what he said, we would just get the outline done in the first appointment. So glad to hear it!!0 -

LMAO!!! I love it!!0 -
I agree with everyone. I'd keep it really moisturized so when you bend there's no pulling if it's dry, you don't want the skin cracking. You're supposed to do that anyway so I don't see a problem.0

I know that I heal poorly after getting a tattoo so I would not get a piece that big unless I had a very flexible workout. If I was dead set on doing the 30DS I would wait to do the tattoo OR the 30DS. This is just me personally though because I know how my body heals. I also have really sensitive skin. Everyone here seems to think it will be okay so I say go for it if you really want. I just wanted you to know that some people may have complications with it. Good luck!! What is the piece you are getting done?0

Wanna see it when you've had it done please :bigsmile:0

I will for sure post pics!!! It's hard to explain, it's going to be large and girly and colorful and it will have personal meaning to me.0
