My Ironman pity party

I'm not one to post on board or open myself up but I need to get things off my chest before I eat my feelings!!! I was reg. and suppose to race Ironman Florida tomorrow. I finished an Ironman in 2008 and I have the itch to do it again. But, the past year threw some curve balls and I was not able to train or race like I had planned. My family moved from Memphis to Phoenix and it was a stressful move. We lost a ton of money on our house, husband's job was not what he was promised, blah, blah, blah. So, now I sit here at my heaviest and I will be watching all my training partners and friends race tomorrow. I ate and drank my way through the stress. I was starting to have a nice pity party and spent the last two days over eating. Today, I had plans to go to the fair and eat my way through fried crap. Instead, I cancelled my plans, went for a nice long run, and I will log what I eat all weekend.

I know that Ironman still lives inside me somewhere. I just need to find her again.

Sometimes, I think a pity party is just what the doctor ordered. Ok, maybe no REAL doctor, but certainly the self-certified doctor in my head :) I don't do it often, but when things get super crappy, I let myself wallow. Usually just a day, sometimes two. I actually scheduled a Wallow Weekend with my cousin this summer when some of our dreams and goals were simultaneously screwed. I personally think it is healthy. We're acknowledging that things are ****ty, grieving over them, and now that we have those necessary actions out of the way, we're ready to tackle life and goals again. I think the evidence is in your post.; you had your pity party, and now you're ready. I think that takes a lot of strength instead of simply calling it all quits and then blaming your diet for your weight gain. You're on the right track. You've had a setback, and I think you recognize it as just that- a setback. You've started fresh, and I am right here to cheer you on!

Sounds to me like you jumped back ON the track before coming to us! Good for you! Cheer your friends on and know that you will do it again next year or the next. You can do this, you are an IRONMAN!

FYI - signed up for my first a few weeks ago! IMTX on May 18th, 2013! I'm going to add as a friend you so you can beat me up when I am not training appropriately :)

I have those myself and I usually DO feel better after. I did it couple weeks ago, then I dusted myself off and started over too.

You did the right/positive thing with your run though and just think you will be in great shape for Next Year's Ironman!!! Starting over is very hard whole new place and whole new things. You are on the right path!!

Tough love time....... Be thankful you can RUN! I have had 7knee nearly fatal surgeries and with a leg re alignment I cant run forward at all. I can walk without you knowing I had surgery and I can do elliptical for which I am thankful. I say this to you to not be a jerk only that you can get out of that slump and find a new joy!

Glad the party's over and you're back to work. :flowerforyou: I wish you great success in your next ironman competition. I'll be thrilled when I can swim well enough to compete in any triathlon. You rock!

Good for you for posting this! It sounds like you are really being accountable for your current situation...doesn't sound like a pity party to me at all! Pat yourself on the back for recognizing your situation and starting to make positive changes!

Way to snap out of it! Good for you. Congratulations on having done an Iron Man once! That's no mean feat and not too many people can claim that accomplishment. Hope you improve your time in the next one. Be careful meanwhile to remain uninjured.
  • Keep working at it, and you will still be able to do it! These events are 85 percent mental. For me it's always mile 20 or 21 of a marathon where i sit/run and mentally abuse myself for ever thinking that this was a good idea. If you had that drive once, you WILL get it back. I have faith. Stay safe and free of injuries!

We have all been there! For me I wallow and then I must make a plan of action. I have to or I'll wallow in despair and get all cray cray. So for the sake of my sanity or those around me plan of action's are made. So you jumped back on the wagon...maybe a new training program/race schedule for you is next?

BTW, I think you are pretty badass to be training for Ironman and already completing it once before! :)
