Today i'm trying to change my life. My mother had been a diabetic type 2 for many years. This last week it changed to type one. So I started looking at my life and the where i'm going with it. All i seen was her. I'm way over weight eating fast food, soda(Diet) and candy all the time. This morning i had to work so I stopped by McDonald's and put my info in the daily meal area of myfitnesspal and was shocked. Calories were over 1500 for breakfast. I have 2 kids and i dont want them to have to take care of me because of my stupididy. I am not a good dieter never have been. I started the green coffee bean diet along with myfitness to monitor my eating habbits. With any luck ill drop the weight and be healthier.
Wish me luck!!

Good for you on trying to make changes before it's too late! Sorry that it took your mother's illness to enlighten you, though.
Good luck on setting and achieving your goals!0 -
Good luck to you. I too am diabetic, hope to do myself some good. Good luck to both of us!,0

You can do it because you have the impact of your mother's diabetes.
Did you mother start on insulin and thats why you believe she is now Type 1? If she had type 2 and started on insulin, she is still type 2 controlled with insulin, type 1 are dependant on insulin. Sorry I am a diabetes specialist nurse.
If you make the changes and set good examples to your children, you are giving them and yourself the best chance of a long and healthy lifestyle. Its scary when you have a family history of diabetes, but you are making the best choices. Well done you.0 -
Good luck and on research I've done, it states that weight lifting w/exercise fights off diebetes and backed up by doctors too. In my family history both my parents were diabetes and their families. As soon as I saw this, just like you, started to change my ways of dieting and got into working out at least 3 days of weights and 3 of cardio... so far has been diabete free at the age of 58 to be soon...0

MFP has a very nice T2 group here http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/1789-type-2-diabetes-support-group. You will find lots of support and info there. I also think there is a prediabetes group and I think many people are on both groups.
I am glad you are trying to take care of yourself now. Make sure you talk to your dr. I think many drs. are more proactive at getting blood glucose under control than they used to be.0 -
I too am diabetic. It was such a surprise to me, because no one in my family has it, and I have never been over weight.
But I found that making healthier choices doesn't have to be disappointing. I still eat the things I love, just healthier ingredients, and in smaller portions.
Good luck!0 -
MFP is great for tracking diabetes control. Changing your eating habits won't happen all at once but, as you see which foods are good and which are caloricly rich, you will make better choices. You will soon see that fast food places have nothing for you. Most "chain restaurants" have few good choices (some "appetizers" can be 1000 calories!). If you can eat part of the meal served (take the rest home or just leave it - you don't need 2200 calories on one plate) it is possible to eat out and enjoy food. Just don't enjoy too much food.
Check out dLife <http://www.dlife.com> for more information on dealing with diabetes (or avoid ever having it). Remember that diabetes has to do with total carbs, not just sugar intake. Good luck! You can do it AND set a good example for your kids.0 -
She was put in the hospital for Phenomena and they started her on insulin. Her levels were 400 the day she was admitted.
The Dr put her on steroids and she was gettin 15 mil of insulin in the morning and 10 at night. Now that shes home she gets 20 in the morning and 10 at night . Her reading this morning was 153. I just cant let my kids go throw this. And when i say im way over weight im a little over 100 pounds. and fast food is not a daily thing. but my diet soda is.0
