What are your goals? Just weight loss? I've never done insanity but I'm pretty sure it works because it's very intense and dynamic. You can probably get just as good result with cardio plus weight IF you are able to work at a really high intensity on your own. Whatever you will stick to and do consistently will probably be the best in the long run though

Done both, doing INSANITY now and I would definitely say INSANITY. After u do insanity for 2 months then switch up the program to weights/cardio.
  • All depends on your diet. But Insanity is pretty much super cardio.

With that being said: resistance training is superior to cardio.

Insanity is scary hard! I'd do a mixture of P90X (Weights) and Turbofire (Cardio) It's a great mix and if you go to beachbody.com there is a mix schedule you can do>

I haven't done insanity but how would it copmare to for example a high intensity sprit workout. I know you say insanity is crazy hard but I'm just saying there may be alternative types of intense cardio IF you can push yourself. Then you don't have to foresake the weight training

It all depends on your current goals, with the winter months coming i would focus more on strength training and some cardio with a mild deficit(250 cal) as spring(march) rolls around jump into insanity and burn that extra winter fat off to reveal your hard earned winter muscles along with jumping up that deficit to 500. When summer rolls around , look out.

My current goal is to drop the quickest amount of weight I can in two months. Want to see results sooner rather than later to not get discouraged. Also will I notice any major difference if I decide to wait and lift after Insanity? I played football in high school and have never been slim. Everyone always asks me do I play football or something to referring to my weight. Maybe I just want to see how it feels to be a little smaller all around than more bulkier with a smaller waist.

If you want the most weight loss then make the biggest calorie deficit whether with diet alone or diet and a bunch of exercise. If you want to keep what muscle you have and not look terrible after losing weight, do resistance training.

I had fantastic results doing Insanity and weight training at the same time (kept the standard Insanity schedule, and added weight training 4x a week on top). In the 9 weeks, I lost 12 pounds and a ton of inches, eating most of my exercise calories back.

I did insanity for a month (I stopped at the 1 month mark because I have turbofire coming and I knew I wouldn't be able to wait to start it so I'm going to do the turbofire program then probably back to insanity) and I saw awesome results. It is mainly cardio but you do a good amount of bodyweight work as well, so its not JUST cardio, I would definitely be sore from the program and I was working out pretty regularly before I started the program. I would say if you're looking to drop weight and inches, do insanity first and then move into the strength training program after. A friend of mine who just completed insanity lost almost 20 inches off her body during the 60 day program. Its intense, you kind of want to die, but I believe it works, I was seeing results after just one week.

That *kitten* is bananans! Definitely depends on what you're working for. Insanity is great for burning calories and working up a sweat. You'll probably also see some strength and endurance gains as long as you really push yourself hard.
  • Do you already have insanity? If so, and you can't afford to buy another program then I would suggest insanity plus weight/resistance training 3 or 4 times per week. Becareful with insanity though, I found the movements so repetitious that my groin area would get sore. What I absoutely love(d) was I did TurboFire and added Chalean Extreme. I kind of made up my own routine because the Extreme has some high cardio added and the TurboFire has several band workouts. I followed the TurboFire routine and then added the Extreme Push, Burn, and Lean DVD's. The TurboFire resistance routines look easy but they are very effective. I love Chalean's DVD's - they are very motivating and the TurboFire music is great after I got used to it.

I can't tell you how many inches I lost but my pants fell off of me and I lost at least 10# and I'm not very big. Look at the women in insanity - they are all thin but don't look very good. Look at the women in P90X - they look better. Look at the women in TurboFire - they look toned and fit.

I just started Cathe's STS because I want to build more muscle in place of my fat because my %age is too hig. I'm using TurboFire and TurboJam for my cardio but after this routine I plan on going back to Chalean Extreme for another rotation.

Actually I have P90x also. Got from a friend that never used them.

It really comes down to this: larger calorie deficit. And if you're goal is to slim down like that - lift weights and lift heavy, cardio is useless.
The smart thing to do: eat slightly above maintenance, create deficit through exercise.
The dumb thing to do: eat under maintenance, try to exercise for further weight loss.
