First week on alternative Day Diet

Hello just found this wonderful website and would like to introduce myself. I have started trying the ADD whist off work for a week. Back to work tomorrow , fortunately on an''UP' day so I can reaclimatise myself into a stressful job!! I wondered if there was anyone else out there who is successfully functioning on this diet with a hectic lifestyle?

sorry hun , it's the 'Alternative Day Diet', easy to google and find out what it's all about. It seems to suit me because I restrict my calorie intake to 500 on alternate days (down days) then know on my 'UP' days I can eat virtually what I want (within reason!). I have tried every diet under the sun over my many years and so far even though early days I am very happy with this one.

There are quite a few people doing this diet - try looking for Alternate Day Fasting (ADF) or the Up Day Down Day Diet (UDDDD or JUDDDD) :-)0

I am very happy as I had a rough day 2 days ago, and ended up scoffing my face with german lebkuchen. Luckily this was on an up day - nevertheless i ended up consuming around 3000kcal on that day because of this. So i didn't lose any weight since last thursday, good news is i didnt gain either Thank you for following my blog, i am trying to get more visitors in0

I did that diet last year and lost about 18lbs. The down days can be a bit of a struggle sometimes but if you eat lots veggies and things that are healthy you get more food and definitely drink as much water as you can.
I don't do it now, I am just normally calorie controlling now, but it definitely helped me shift weight I had been trying to get rid of for years with no success and having down days teaches you that you can survive on a lot less food than you think, so going onto a normal cal controlled diet seems a lot easier after that. Also found that the weight didn't pile back on when I gave up dieting for a while the way it normally would after a diet.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wanted to give it a try, especially if you struggle with feeling deprived on a diet, as it only lasts a day and you know you can have what you want tomorrow. Makes it so much easier to stick to.

Hi,
Very keen to give this a go. Can I just ask what you are doing with exercise calories? Have just finished 2 mile run (around 200 cals). Should I consume 700 cals today or still go with 500. What do you think. Also, would anyone doing this friend request me as would love to see how it goes for everyone?

You don't eat back exercise calories, so go with 500 calories. I'm doing a lot of physical labour for the next few weeks as we have a big DIY project on so I've suspended the 5:2 diet I was on (a variation on the ADF where you fast for 2 days in the week). I'm just too hungry after a day's work to manage fasting.0

Been on ADD for 20 weks & lost 21lbs, I'm getting very close to my target weight , my question is how do I retain the health benefits of ADD without losing further weight ?0

I'd suggest you eat more on non-fasting days - sounds delicious to me! If you aim to eat maintenance level of calories spread over a week you shouldn't lose more weight.0
