How much fish oil should you take a day? I bought some 1200mg capsules, and I'm not sure how many to take a day the bottle says take 1-2 two times a day with food... each capsule has 25 cals...(should I count these in my dairy as well)
Thanks in advance for your replies....

Careful with fish oil, a number of manufactures are being sued because PCBs have been found. In addition, because there are no regulations around fish oil you do not know where the fish came from. http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE6214OT20100303
Many of the fish caught for fish oil are fish that cannot be eaten such as shark and dogfish. Both carry high amounts of mercury and both are near endangered. I stick with eggs and Flaxseed.0 -

How much EPA and DHA in each cap?
I'd go with a minimum of about 800mg EPA and about 500mg DHA.
I actually get about 3 times that ( 2400mg EPA and 1500mg DHA) because I use a liquid fish oil and it's easier to take 3 tsp/day instead of 6-8 caps/day.0 -
you should count anything with caloric value that you put in your mouth.
reference this site, http://www.oilofpisces.com/generalhealtheffects.html to obtain what a good serving of fish oil a day/week would be. The serving on the bottle is usually correct.
i consume two a day, because thats what the bottle says. (i keep them in the freezer, so after i take them, i dont burp the taste of fish)
hope this helps%Pr0 -

with regards to the comment about watching out for certain fish oils due to mercury, yes, you should be careful. If you're looking for a super high quality product from a very ecologically minded company that produces a fish oil gel cap that won't make you burp fish oil.....check out Nordic Natural (www.nordicnaturals.com).
fish oil is a fabulous thing for your body on many many levels (IMHO).
