SMH

So as I sit here typing this my hubby is outside doing yard work and I am sitting here on my butt not doing a thing!

I have lost 19 pounds and felt sooooo good and have begun to get tons of compliments! Now that fall is here and winter is quickly approaching and now that the days are really starting to get shorter I have lost my get up and go. I have been turning to the yummy comfort foods since it has been getting chilly outside. I hate the cold!!! I have been working 7 days a week so that has really cut into my time to go to the gym or get in some exercise.

I am really hoping that I can get off my lazy bum and get myself back on track.

I can go on and on about the reasons that I have falling off track but all in all the main reason is pure laziness and to me that is not acceptable!

I am looking for some support and suggestions on how to get out of the winter funk before winter even really sets in.

Please feel free to friend me right now I think that I can use all of the extra support that I can get!

Thanks,
Karen

Force yourself outside and instead of going inside to warm up, exercise to warm up. No amount of making excuses will make you lose weight.

I eat better in the cooler months because I make soups with chicken and tons of veggies and greens. Make a double batch and freeze them in single-serve tupperwares from the dollar store.

    Steel cut oats for breakfast.

Hot decaf or tea all day for temperature control.

And then when you get to the end of the day you might have some calories leftover for hot cider with rum. That's what I aim for.

No matter how many work outs you missed, no matter how much halloween candy found it's way into your day, just don't give up. Keep moving and keep trying to eat right no matter how much you fail. It's the choice to make the exercise and healthy eating your regular habits that will make or break your success over the long haul.
It's a life-long change and we will all have weak times.
  • find something you love and do it : ) for myself, exercise has to be somewhat enjoyable or i won't stick to it. i love music and don't get much time to myself so something i like to do is just take an hour out of my day and take a brisk walk around the neighborhood with my iPod. i know how you feel though, it's easier said than done. but once you do it, you feel like a million bucks!

You are not a bear! You do not need to hiberate!
Get off the computer and go and do something, anything.

I love this time of year. My trees are shedding and I can burn a ton of calories raking up the leaves. Sometimes I don't want to be away from home, in a gym. This way I am home and it's still a workout. My yard and my body benefit. Once you get started with something like raking, you'll be thankful it's cool outside.

Thats what I do. I hate the bitter cold but if he can get his skinny bony rear outside and do some yard work then I can get out there right along side of him. I always feel better helping out.
That being said, it is harder to get motivated when its cold and gloomy looking outside. A lot of people suffer from depression or lack of motivation when the seasons change. Hang out with your hubby since he seems to not be as effected as you by this weather. Maybe some of his mojo will rub off on you. Works for me! Sure I would rather sit bundled up under blankets and watching TV but I try not to. I'm online quite a bit because of school. I take 5 classes, but 3 of them are partly online so I'm constantly working on a paper or case study. But when I finish a paper or submit my case study I get up and go outside. Or get on my stationary bike. If you don't want to go out in the cold you can get a stationary bike and set it up so it faces the TV. I watch the news or my favorite show or even prop up one of my books on the machine and peddle away. People will say just do it...but I know its not that easy. Cold air means joints ache, you feel blah etc. Find some fun in moving around. If you have kids get them to help build a leaf pile and dive in, roll around etc. They'll enjoy an active mom over a couch potato mom any day.
  • Comfort foods don't have to be lots of calories. I was surprised to find that even most creamy soups don't have a lot of calories. Just finished eating 3 cups of creamy tomato soup. Only 300 calories. Very comforting on cold days like this. I'm thinking I should have added in some vegetables for a more nutritious boost. Live and learn, right?

Wouldn't this be a nice surprise for your hubby! He'd be stoked that you want to help him and you get to burn extra calories. Win-win!

I have been right where you are just a few weeks ago, try to commit to a small amount of time. A short workout or one flower bed weeded. I find once I get started I will go longer than I committed to. I had to start reminding myself as others have said that, if I don't move nothing will change. You must do it for yourself. I am so angry at myself for all the time lost. I remember something said on a weight loss show, the trainer asked if the person was comfortable with yourself. The women said, NO! The trainer responded then how is food comfort? You can do it this, look how far you have come already. Little steps climb mountains.

Yeah, sorry, there is no magical secret we can give you to get off your *kitten*. You just have to decide you want it more than being fat.

I'm sorry if that seems harsh, but that's kind of the reality of the situation.

My fiance was outside almost all day raking and cutting up wood. I was inside looking at hundreds of fonts for our wedding invitations. When I felt myself getting restless of doing it, I walked into the kitchen, gave myself a mental ***** slap, and went outside and split wood by hand for 2 hours.

Only you can give yourself the mental ***** slap. Good luck!

put on your headphones and get up really early and go for a run, then when you get home in the evening you don't have to go out to exercise... but find something to do like an exercise video so that you don't end up eating comfort food

vitamin D to help the winter blues and Jillian's 30 DS for timing... it's only 25 minutes with warm up and cool down.

Nothing says you have to go "outside" to exercise...you can find plenty to do "IN"side. Exercise videos, Fit TV, XBox Kinect or Wii Fit, You Tube exercise videos, or make up your own circuit training (combination of toning/weight training and cardio/plyometrics)

    http://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/guide/plyometrics-exercise-workouts

If you want to get outside...learn a new sport....WHY NOT??? Try cross country skiing, or skiing, ice skating, just go for a walk, hiking, biking, snow shoeing....

Try NEW healthier recipes for old favorites. For instance, I made a black bean soup yesterday that included vegetable broth, red bell peppers, celery, onion, carrot, jalapeno peppers, tomatoes, garlic and orange zest. It is chocked full of veg, low in calories, fat and sodium and full of flavor.

YOu can make a chicken and veg soup...throw in the whole garden and add whole grain rice instead of dumplings.

Want some tasty cinnamon apples? Just pick your favorite apple, chop, add cinnamon and steam (or nuke it in the microwave) until the natural sugars caramelize it and enjoy it with yogurt, walnuts or on some whole grain waffles, whole grain pancakes or with a cup of low fat cottage cheese.
