Don't like my new trainer

When I joined YouFit I signed up for a trainer to work with once a week. The guy and I really clicked and I felt great working with him, so I signed up for 6 months (the price was great pre-paying). Alas and alack, that trainer has quit and I really don't like my new trainer. A couple of things: older man who has himself lost 90 pounds and kept it off. You'd think I'd find that motivating .... I don't. He has kind of a know-it-all attitude. Didn't like when he asked me how many calories I was eating daily and when I told him 1680, he immediately said I needed to cut that down, and consider dropping to 1200 calories a day. When I told him I was steadily losing 2 pounds a week, he just didn't say anything else about calories. He's not pushing me much ... and, sorry, but I'm tired of being told he's giving me the same workout as his 300-pound client. Okay, I was nearly at 300 pounds myself, but. hey, I'd down now!

And, I must admit, I miss working with the cute 21-year-old. Hey, at my age, we get our giggles where we can. It was strictly "look / don't touch", but at least I could dream :)

Talk to the club and let them know you're not happy (I would lay off the ageist comments though......what comes around goes around  ) let them know you want someone who's going to push you.

Fire him. If he's getting paid by your money to train you, then you're the boss. You don't like his style; it happens.

Ask for someone else that doesn't think everyone needs to eat 1200 calories a day and has a cuter *kitten*.

Ok, maybe leave out that last part....

i had this problem once... i had two trainers. my main guy was a beef eater. huge steroid man who competed. he trained me like i was a man competing as well. i was athletic at this time, but i was SO not there...infact he was teaching me to do a lunge and i did it wrong and hurt my leg somehow. I fired him lol.. he just wasnt the right trainer for me. im sorry but im a female and i even when i was athletic he was starting me out with like 40lb weights. definetly just see if you can trade. it doesnt have to be personal just say ya his technique and approach is not my style.

He seems legit. I think you need to send your credit card info to him before you sign up.

    He's my trainer. He's legit.
  • Get a new trainer. No one would advice you to exercise on so few calories. I did for a while and made myself so ill. I started having black outs and lots of other very scary health problems. It's really worrying that this man is telling you to do this.

definitely get a new one. unfortunately just because someone is a trainer doesn't mean they know what they are talking about

To be fair to the OP, she didn't ask for advice. I think she knows she can cut him. Let her have her rant.

Thank you for thinking of me. But I've been around the forums enough to know that when you post anything, expect absolutely anything in the replies. Yes, I did want to vent, but I also appreciate all of the lovely comments and kindly advice.

I'm going to give this guy a few more sessions before I seek another trainer -- he might grow on me, and I need to be fair and let him know what I want from a trainer instead of let him think I'm someone who is clueless. If he can't provide what I'm looking for after I've made it clear, then there are other trainers. With the previous trainer, the cute butt was just gravy, I'll go with whatever trainer can help ME to get my own cute butt (or as cute as a 56-year-old butt can get). There's another trainer there who's actually older than me who really seems excellent and a couple of my friends use him, but he is consistently booked months in advance. Bummer.

Maybe like you said stick it out for a little bit, so at least it looks like you're giving him a bit of a chance. I'd try talking to him about it though, tell him what you think. Be honest, he might not be aware of what he's doing. Then once you both know that it won't work out, speak to the club manager and get another trainer that will meet your needs. PTs cost a hell of a lot of money so don't be polite about it!

I had a trainer like that once (bodybuilder who was close-minded and knew everything) was so happy when our sessions finished! Have a new PT that I love training with now :)

Hope it works out for you.
