I'm starting Week 5 tomorrow myself, and the best I can say is just keep your mind on the long term goal. If it starts to get challenging slow your pace up a little. Just focus on reaching your goal time.
Like I said, I'm just starting the same thing, but I've done long running in the past0 -
If you have to repeat days before you are ready for the full run, then do it.0

I started week 7 today, and what I told myself at week 5 was that I am already halfway there and I am already sooo much better than I was 4 weeks earlier. Just keep pushing and turn the music up! Good luck!0

Bear in mind that you probably WON'T be running 5k at the end. Most people don't run fast enough to do that. I am now just gradually increasing the distance I run in one go, using Runkeeper app.0

Thanks. I know.
I absolutely H-A-T-E running. I have been told that if I run 3 days a wk for a year or so, I will gradually learn to love it. I am taking that on faith.
I run at a slow, steady pace, so I do not get out of breath. Not getting out of breath makes it tolerable. Every morning, before starting a run, I know that I will be doing a tolerably necessary activity which will not leave me gasping for breath and will not be so ****ty.
However, the pace is sloooooow - so I do not expect to run 5k - more like 3.2/3.6k. But thats OK as long as I run for 30 mins.
About Wk 5, I have reconciled to the fact that it will be difficult. I'm ready to repeat the week a few times to get it set.
Wot say all about this strategy?0 -
You'll be fine.
Run slow, get some good music, and it will be over before you know it.
Don't repeat anything unless you really have to. When I did mine, as long as I completed the interval segments, then I moved on...I knew that speed and distance were going to come in time.0 -
i am having a really hard time and i have repeated several weeks. i am currently ending week 4 also but feel i may do a couple extra days of such......again. i do the treadmill for the first few times then hit the streets which reinforce how i'm not a runner.0

Week 5 is truly mind over body. You've been training for this week and are ready for it. Finishing that 20 minute run at the end of the week is the BEST feeling. You will doubt yourself, so shut that down.0
