How to stop gaining back weight after a 3-day fast?

Hi guys! I'm currently on day 2 of my water fasting and I was wondering if you could help me on how to prevent gaining most of the weight I'll lose back once I start eating again? Thanks.

Don't fast - cut calories and eat properly perhaps? (all you lose is water weight, i.e. glycogen, so that is what goes back on as soon as you carb up again)

    Definitely this!

Why would you want to starve your poor hard working body for 3 days??

I don't get it - if you know you will put the weight back on, why do the fast in the first place?

    You can't.

Anything you lose, you will gain back once you start eating properly again.

You will more than likely to gain it back... just start eating healthy and working out and the weight will come off....

Food stays in your digestive system for at least a day usually. If you fast for 3 days, you will empty out your intestines completely. When you start eating again, the number on the scale will absolutely go up a couple of pounds because you have food inside you again.

Go on a longer term more gradual diet.
You will gain "water weight" glycogen back, very quickly after a water fast. (the body converts sugars to glycogen and stores in the muscles and liver ) so you have probably used quite a bit up after 3 days. As soon as you eat, the body will refill this energy source. To lose weight generally you can just reduce calories. To lose mainly fat you need some resistance exercise, and to reduce calories (but ensure you have enough protein and fat for your desired bodyweight ) And I say go on a gradual diet as it is simply much less stressful to reduce calories by a small percentage every few weeks.
  • Then don't fast?

Also, don't be so fixated on the scale, you'll most likely gain water weight.

Why are you fasting? Not a good lifestyle change......sounds like a fad diet which are BAD.

I'm doing two fasting days (500kcl a day) a week (but not in a row) and I'm losing. Have no problem with gaining weight back - it's more a pleasure for my body to clean up in these two days. I also do one absolutly salt free day a week to get of some water. The other four days I eat just normal within my calorie goal or a bit over. I feel realy good with it.

Intermittet fasting is not bad or negative for weight lose - it's the exact opposite. But that's probably a thing to belive in or not.

Don't poop during the 3 day fast.

Water fasting seems very unhealthy. =( After you start eating again your body is going to naturally gain back the weight.
  • Don't fast in first place. Try eating a healthier diet, within your calories/macros and exercise.

Best way to prevent unwanted effects of a stupid idea is to go on a quest to find the magical unicorn of Common Sense and drink its blood.

    Secretlobster for the win!

Agreed that a water fast does not sound like a healthy idea.

A fast does a few things.

    1. it empties your glycogen stores. (this is the weight you lose and then gain right back)
    2. has the effect of lowering your daily calorie intake average.

Instead of fasting, just eat at a deficit. It'll give you a much more consistent idea of where you really are with your weight loss.

The best way to prevent you from gaining weight is to not quit. Instead of 3 days, why not go 53 days? Or 365 days?
