NE England female - I want to look ripped!

Hey there,
I'm new! I decided to start keeping a MyFitnessPal diary because although I've done a lot of exercise over the years, I suspect it's the numbers that are keeping me from my body goals (calories!)... this way, I can't cheat. Plus, I have the app for my phone now and inputting what I eat is very convenient (especially with the barcode scanner, which I find very fun - is that sad?).

I've done all sorts ranging from martial arts (karate, kenjutsu, "street fighting", boxing, Muay Thai, even knife throwing) to Chinese pole and pole dancing. Right now, because of time constraints (I'm in my final year at uni studying fashion design) I'm struggling to fit those things in, so what I am focusing on at the moment is doing the Insanity fitness course and also weight work by going to the gym. My aunt is a champion powerlifter and I would really like to follow in her footsteps one day!

My current goal is to get lean and mean. I would love a six pack - I am definitely a visibly muscular woman but there's a layer of fat to get rid of!

Are there any other north east England folk (ladies or fellas!) who have fitness goals to chat about? I'd like to hear from you!

Emily

Hi Emily! Welcome to MFP - it's really helpful here.

There are plenty of resources and groups dedicated to lifting for women.

I'm at the stage where thankfully most of - but not all! - of the pudge has gone. I have 'flabs' - abs hiding behind my pooch!

    All the best.
  • Thank you Mogletdeluxe! I feel very welcome already and I have found all of the features of MFP really easy to use so far. It feels like I've been using it for ages already, it is so easy. :D

I've just seen your pictures and you look fantastic! :D Thank you for the comment

    Welcome Emily!

I don't know much about lifting but it's definitely something I want to look into, wish you all the best :):flowerforyou:

  • Thanks! Thankfully I have my aunt to help train me... but the thing is with powerlifting is that in contests you don't have to lift as much weight if you weigh less, basically. So I really want to trim that fat. Also if I weigh less it will be a lot easier to lift myself for any acrobatics-y things, too, I'm hoping!

Thanks for your message, Lorraine! What are your goals and what are you doing at the moment? :D x

My goals are on the back-burner as I've got a bit of back bother just now (it's improving though), but I tend to be a bit all-or-nothing and end up sabotaging myself if I don't meet a target.
I'm taking things slow, one pound at a time and celebrating the wee things :) The big goal is 75lbs by next October which is going rather well surprisingly! But I'm not being strict with myself exercise-wise, focussing on diet for a while.

Had been doing Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred before my injury - not related - so will be doing that again at some point but on the whole walking is my limit at the moment, but can see Couch 2 5K programme and back to Zumba on the horizon.

Fashion design sounds marvellous! If you could design a decent workout bra for the larger bust I'd love you forever ;-)
  • Unfortunately what I mostly do is menswear, but I have such a massive difficulty shopping for clothes that I'm thinking there needs to be clothing out there for women of different body types!

I think you're right to celebrate the wee things! Sometimes a big target can seem so, so far away. Humans just aren't built to think in the long term - you have to try and think of eventual goals but I think small goals can help stop you going insane! Keep it up :D
