Has what the scales read's caused anyone of you to give up even though you look and feel better?
I always find it hard to continue my journey after i weigh myself and see no loss after working out really hard and eating well

Yes I feel that way. I get so disappointed when I dont see any progress. I throw a 5 minute pity party and then I keep moving forward. I can see how someone could give up though based on the scale.0

I don't pay much attention to the scale. I go more by how my clothes feel and how I see my self in the mirror.0

You know what I used to do that all the time. I would give up and quit if the numbers weren't going as fast as I liked, etc.
Then, a few weeks ago (after eating healthy and exercising for 5 months) I had one week were I ate terribly. I felt horrible, bloated, and sluggish. I went back on my healthy eating habits the next week and started to immediately feel better.
So I have decided that it doesn't matter to me what the scale says. What matters is how good I feel when I eat healthy and exercise. The number on the scale no longer dictates how I will treat my body. )0 -
The scales and I have a lot of negative past history. If it showed a loss, I'd celebrate with food. If it showed a gain, I'd console with food.
This time I've decided to weigh myself about once per month on a day that I'm sure I'm not retaining water or constipated because I do want to track my progress. But most of all, I want to focus on eating appropriately and getting exercise. I definitely don't want the scales standing in my way.0 -

The thing is i do feel great and toned but as soon as i step on the scale and see no loss i'm like what is the point of all this hard work and start eating, it has rouined my journey countless of times .0 -

Yes, unfortunately I let the numbers on the scale get to me. Sometimes it works in a good way.... like if I've been doing well then slip up and I gain for a week - then I know I need to get back in gear & I try to use it as motivation. But in the past I've worked really hard and gone weeks without losing and I let that discourage me. I'm trying to do things differently and pay more attention to the way my clothes are fitting and how I have more energy, etc.0

Measurements help me. Otherwise, I try and find other things that I like about my journey more than the weight loss. My health and desire to be a better runner continuously push me in the direction of making healthy choices, regardless of what the scale tells me. Of course, this has become easier over time, and easier because I have only ten pounds between my weight now and my ideal weight.0

Sounds like you need to toss your scale completely, since you're far too hung up on a meaningless number.0

If I have a # I don't like on the scale, it tends to ruin my whole day! I hate that and try to get past it but it's very hard. Here lately, I just hop on and keep on trucking along whether there is weight loss or not. Life is too short to dwell on a silly #.0

Well, from the looks of your photo you have a great shape. Try not weighing at home head down to a gym and get a diagnostics done with a trainer. They well help you focus on toning up and not wigging out about how much you weigh.
Looking great is ultimately more effective than weighing less babe.0 -
Stop reading the scale.
Now, I'm a scale obsessor - I hit it every morning without fail. But I do that because it is easier for me to see it going up and down a lot than to worry about a big deal once a week weigh-in.
If you get depressed with the scale, stop using it. Measure yourself. Look at your clothes. Look in the mirror.
Exercise will make you look fantastic and change your body. It will make you healthier. It will not make you weigh less.
Eating healthy will make you, well, healthy. It will not make you weigh less.
A calorie deficit will make you weigh less.
A calorie deficit and exercise will make you look good and weigh less. It will help you burn fat and retain or build muscle.
Decide what you want and need. And ignore your scale for a while. A few months from now, step on it and you may be pleasantly surprised.0 -

Ummm. You just asked what the point of all this hard work was right after saying you feel great and toned.
You need to ask yourself if you care about a magical number or if you care about looking good. I dont know if maybe you have a medical condition that requires you to be less weight or whatever, but typically most people on here are trying to get fit, get toned and overall look good naked in front of the mirror. I would say that it would be rare that a person on this website would rate "lower number on scale" over "look better naked".0 -
Scales can be very disappointing. That's why when I restarted almost a month ago, I told myself I would weigh, measure, and take pictures every 4 weeks. I did this because I finally came to the realization that this journey is going to take a while and I want to notice the little things during the month, like my activity level, my clothes, etc.0

I completely agree. What is the point of giving up over a number when you know you've accomplished so much? About two weeks ago, I was about ready to start TOM and had some bad eating and I was up like 8 pounds one morning - and I LOL'd! Obviously that wasn't a true weight. It was water weight and (pardon my TMI) probably some constipation too. There are so many things that cause fluctuations in our weigh ins, it's really not worth putting so much emotional stock into.
If you feel good and think you look good, who cares what the scale says? I'd either keep weighing like you do and come to terms with the reasons why it fluctuates or stop weighing altogether and just go by how you're feeling in your clothes and out of them.0 -
Same here. We just have to realize the scale isnt everrything. You can use a tape measure to keep up with inches lost and also go with what you see in the mirror and what ppl tell you.0

I hate scales and I always feel depressed when I don't show weight loss, but I don't let it get me down for long. I don't let it get me discouraged. I just keep trying my best.0
