Kudos to PMKelly for the idea...
Cars that flash their brights in your eyes at night. Why?????
People that don't reign their dogs in when they see you coming?? (I love dogs, but I don't know if Cujo is a nice doggie or not!!)
Biker's that go pass you too close. - Yes, I'm sorry my *kitten* was in your way for .034 seconds...what a pain for you...:grumble:

Now I see why I don't run at night.
I would be dropping the "f" bomb frequently and my little birdie would be stuck up in the air until I get back home.

I use to be a runner, but I hardly ever ran on the road, but trust me it's worse on a bike. People in cars have no respect for cyclist. We have just as much right to be on the road as long as we're falling the rules set fourth by the department of motor vehicles. I love it when a motorist yells at me when I'm just riding along minding my own business....stupid
I seriously had a guy side swip me, stop in the middle of the road diagonal so I couldn't get by, get out of his car and curse me out. He said, I cut him off in the left hand lane. Ok I would never cut off a big car that could run my butt over. I looked back saw his car way down the road, I signaled and proceeded into my left hand turn....he was a freak! He even acted like he was going to punch me. I'm so glad my husband was with me.
Some people are just jerks I guess!
I agree 100% about dogs too. I hate it when people don't restrain their dogs. I always have my on a leash!
Dogs can be unpredictable so you never know. To me those are irresponsible dog owners.0 -
Hey Healthier, I drop the F bomb during the DAY at cars who drive too fast in my neighborhood(I'm talking 45-50 in a 30 WTH????) Everyday I yell at someone at least once"SLOW the F DOWN!!!!"
I don't like it when dog owners don't pick up their dog bombs(big dogs=big poop) when they are on a public paved trail(It's a law here they are supposed to pick up the feces left by their pet). I didn't even know dogs liked to poop on pavement:laugh:  :laugh:0 -

 I'm tempted sometimes, believe me.
The worst was when someone made pig-noises out their car window when I was heavier & trying to run. I was thinking, "what the f' dude, at least I'm trying!"0 -

WTH??? What is wrong with people?!?!?!Stuff like that infuriates me!!!! :explode:
I've said it once I'll say it again,

Yeah they do.
Least I got their license plate number & was able to gun them down & set their house on fire, but still.... :grumble:
J/K..but I thought about it. :bigsmile:0 -
Okay, since I inspired the idea I must post!!! :drinker:
Ever notice what pigs your neighbors are? Who the heck throws their McD's wrappers out the window, and soda bottles, and one day I found a bag of chicken bones - gross!!! Where does all this stuff come from - because in all the driving I do, I don't ever see the crime being committed?
And to the guy who saw me coming up the road yesterday and had to yell at me to move over - BITE ME!! you scared the living shyte out of me and I could have tripped and hurt myself! :mad:0 -
Oh and one more - if you are going to run outside - wear light colored clothing with a reflector vest of sorts....when I am the driver it freaks me out to come up on someone and not see them until the very last second...0

I second that. We bought illumiNITE cycling jerseys for riding at night. They are nice and they aren't ugly LOL! It looks like a regular design until the light hits it and the design is reflectors...love them!
Get this one of the surgeons I work with had some jerk throw a slurp on him. It came out of nowhere....I swear I believe in Karma though...they will get what's coming to them LOL! :bigsmile:0 -
One thing about spring/summer running I don't like is...SNAKES!!   They scare the poo-poo out of me & will usually see one once a week or so on the creek paths I run.
{{{{{{shudder}}}}}}} :sick:0 -
How about bugs in your teeth  or up your nose or in your ears? - blech! double blech!!0

Well, I run daily on the road, and I can tell you that it goes both ways, we, as runners, can be just as bad as drivers (I try to be good about it, but ...). for instance, I notice many runners running in the very thin side area to the right of the white line WITH traffic, not only is that dangerous, it's so preventable.
There are certain rules we need to follow as runners. Running against traffic is number 1! ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS run against traffic. Not only does this allow you to see traffic comming and take appropriate action, it allows the driver to see your face, and know that you recognize a car comming thus reduce their panic (and I'm sure you will realize if you think about it, the slight little nervous feeling you get as a motorist when you pass a runner with his/her back to you, wondering if he knows you are there...etc). Never run to the right of parked cars on a street, this one is obvious, besides unseen doors opening, you might be hiding from traffic if you are short or passing a truck. Oh and lastly, if you will be running on a busy street, TURN OFF THE DAMN IPOD! Really? Do you need music bad enough to become crippled for life? IPODS are NOT condusive to street running, you need all your senses in a busy street, don't give yourself 1 strike by tuning out the sounds.
With that being said, motorists can be just as bad as runner, seriously, honking at a runner because you are close is more dangerous then slowing down a little, I know I have jumped when someone beeped at me when I didn't see them, jump the wrong way and you are a pancake! Yelling at runners is just plain silly. I have even seen cars swerve at runners to try to get them to "share" the road. That's really nice. I personally always drive near a runner assuming that they DON'T know I am there. I'm extra careful when I pass or come close, it's just common sense, we don't know what that runner is thinking, or how good their hearing or eye sight is, better safe then sorry, unfortunately the standard for a driver's license isn't all that high and many people think that threatining a runner is the BEST way to get them to notice you.
All said and done, I try to run on roads with sidewalks, I really don't understand why some runners are against this, are they worried about stepping on the sidewalk crack ? I mean, if it's a morals thing, get over it, being safe is more important then being right, majority rules and there are many more motorists then their are runners and cyclists! As much as we like to think that the street is "ours" too, let's be realistic, you're talking about a 2500 pound steel, moving kinetic missle against a 200 lb (give or take) ball of squishy, breakable, meat. We all know how that will turn out 100% of the time. You can be "right" and dead, or safe and alive.
I'm not saying you shouldn't want, or even work toward runners having a share of the street, I'm just saying, it's not going to happen any time soon, so adaptation is probably the more reasonable course of action.0 -

LOL
I just came in from my run and read your post. I'm laughing because I ran a different route today on a busy street, boy could those arseclowns use some of your insight. I always run against traffic for the reasons in your post and on sidewalks if they are there. On the busy street today I turned off my headphones so I could hear if a dumptruck or whatever. I had some IDIOT yell at me that I was on the wrong side of the road-NO JOKE!!!! I just waved at him and smiled. I really wanted to flip him off, but he was in a F150 and well me vs the truck, I know who was faster. I think some people are just arseholes no matter if the majority of us are doing the "right" thing.
Thanks for your post-they are always so well written
No if I could only get my bike hand signals straight-LOL Just kidding!0 -
Okay...so this REALLLLLLY bugged me yesterday......:grumble:
Why do so many walkers start in the running waves???? Spent the first couple miles running around people who walk 3-across and/or have their kids with them walking in front of everyone.
Why not start with the walkers?????? :explode:
Okay, I feel better now. :bigsmile:0 -

Hahaha!!! I'm guilty of this! When we do our 9:30am walks, we always take over. I apologize to everyone in our neighborhood!! :blushing:
I got a couple:
1. Dog owners who let their dogs poo on the paved trails and don't poo per scoop!!
2. Bike riders who use the same trails and don't use their bells to advise they are getting close. They scare the crap out of me every day.0 -
the bikers scare me too. :explode:
I also hate it when I feel like I'm running good/strong & someone passes me like I'm moonwalking. :grumble:0 -

LMAO...last summer I was running and I thought I was doing pretty good (considering I was overweight) and I could hear someone behind me. So being the competitive person I am, I picked up my speed cuz I didn't want them to pass me. Well, low and behold, this man walks past me.
Yes, he was speed walking but hell, I was supposed to be running!!! I was so embarrassed!!0 -

I've had things thrown at me while riding my bike. The worst was when I had a beer bottle thrown at me by a bunch of college students riding in an expensive CLK convertible that almost hit me in the head. The whole time I could hear them laughing and yelling to get off the road. Worst part? I was actually going about 5mph over the speed limit on my bike, so I wasn't actually holding up traffic.
In a rather unproud moment I rode up next to their mercedes with my car key reached out and ruined the 3000$ paint job on their mommy and daddy car and rode off into the woods. It was very cathartic, and hopefully when they paid to get it fixed they rethinked their actions. Most likely not, but its nice to dream, eh?
I'm not proud, but damn it felt good at the time. I was seeing red.
I actually know cyclists in the area who ride armed because they've had people get out of their cars and attack them for being in the way.
I mean, is getting somewhere 5 seconds faster really worth attacking another person, and potentially killing them? Man, people scare me0 -

You think that's bad. I was climbing Mount Sinai in Egypt over ten years ago, in my 20's, and this old lady passed me out on the trail. I was blue in the face and I swear she was 90 if she was a day bounding up those rocks as I tried to catch my breath....

We hiked cowles mountain this past weekend and its almost 1600 feet up. Well on our way down there was three women that looked like they were in their 80s passing us talking and not out of breath they were talking about their upcoming camping trip lol.....was upset but giggled and wish that when I am their age I can be just as spry.0
