What do you do when you're really annoyed?

...When you're annoyed at a person or group of people, at the bad luck you've recently had, being told something that is wrong or untrue, etc.
I just lost money through no fault of your own. It's annoying being a full-time student and having a part-time job to pay for absolutely all the bills on my own and then losing money. I know I can't do anything to change what's happened and that I'll fell better tomorrow, but I'm so annoyed *now* that I can can't concentrate on my work. And my stupid housemates are smoking weed and the house stinks of the smell. They do this at least 4 times a week! I don't understand how some people can be so inconsiderate.
Help!

Get some fresh air. Go out for a run or walk.0

It's 11pm... and I have work to do!0

I'm sorry. I would def go for a walk or run. Some of my best workouts come from anger/being annoyed. I know it sounds bad, but it's true.0
-
Well, obviously not enough work to keep you off of MFP...0

Whoops! Scratch the workout haha. Is there a library open by any chance? Probably not, but that would be a good place to go. Do you have any non-party friends that would let you work at their place? Room mates can be a pain.0 -

Pardon my bluntness, but have you tried reading a textbook when 3 of your housemates who have rooms next to your own room bring 5 people over and smoke £50 worth of weed, play video games and have loud music on? And when you tell them to turn it down, they do so for 2 minutes then turn it back up. If you have and can help, then please do so, otherwise the sarcasm isn't helping.0 -
Stick on some angry music!!! Music ALWAYS makes me feel better!0

For me, violent video games work. I can pretend whatever I'm killing is whomever is pissing me off. I have a 420 BIL living with me and he likes to toke up a couple bowls every night. I light up stinky, scented candles and Febreeze his doorway in defense.0

Sorry, I've been in those kinds of situations. I do have two older brothers. Pot, video games, and music? Grow a pair.
My point was that being on MFP is not getting any work done so you saying you don't have time to go outside to walk and relax is a crappy excuse. Your first post also didn't say anything about "help me with a way to get my work done while having major distractions".0 -
So sorry to hear that
It's hard when someone's inconsideration and thoughtlessness intrude on you in big ways. :flowerforyou:
(It's easy to jump on MFP for a sec to vent and go back to what you're doing; it takes a lot longer to go for a run. But maybe modify that idea--when you are ready to explode, do some pushups or lift a few weights?)
Do you have any noise mufflers around like fans?0 -

Oh my God.
If you've been in those situations, then please give me some advice.
Crappy excuse? I said it's 11pm.
What do you think I meant when I said help in the first post? Help me grow a third leg? Help me start my cut my hair? Help me pass run a marathon? No. My asking for help *directly follows* from the problems I stated of a) losing money and b) needing to get my work done.0 -

It might not have occured to adini749 that the OP came onto MFP to find a listening ear and a bit of support. I have been in a shared house where other tenants were pot heads and it can be really isolating if you are not on their wavelength or they yours.
Short term - maybe take a short walk out if you have anywhere safe to do that. If you really need to work tonight, try putting on headphones/earplugs and playing music or sound that blocks out the music in the house. At least you are in control of that music.
Is there a friend or college mates you can go over to tonight?
Longer term - start to look for a move to a more positive house share - nothing is worth this. It sounds like hell if you are trying to better yourself and the rest of the house are doping their lives away.0 -
Push yourself away from the computer, close your eyes, and take a deep breath. Ask yourself why the things that annoy you so much annoy you. Why does it annoy you that you lost money? Why does it annoy you that your roommates are being loud and smoking pot? It may sound weird, but I find getting to the root of my frustration helps relieve some of it.
Another option: I'm guessing you're studying at a university? Most universities have a library that is open late. They're quiet and clean and getting out of the house will help clear your head.0 -
madworld1 and zyxst:
Thank you, I'll keep this in mind.
FlaxMilk
Thank you for listening. I'll do all those things
C4RL05:
Yes! To "find a listening ear and a bit of support" is exactly what I needed. Next time I'll go to a friend's house to work. Thank you! I really appreciate it.
NaurielR:
Yes, I'm at university. I'll do this too. The library closes at midnight and I got home at 10pm so there was no point going for such a short time, but next time I'll go directly to a friend's or the library. Thanks.
This is exactly what I needed.0 -
No problem - try to sleep well, and look out for a move; sounds like you need one.0
-
id move ! if this continues it can really affect your study, look on line now for somewhere else to live. Goodluck with your study.0

It occurred to me to offer advice in my very first post. It seemed to me that he came here to vent and complain.
Like I already said, I've dealt with all of that. You either deal with it or you whine about it. What's going to get the work done? Dealing with it.
I don't know what it being 11pm has to do with it, you obviously are up and awake and not getting any sleep anytime soon.
As for losing money, how the hell am I supposed to offer advice on that?
My advice still stands, not being on MFP and at least attempting to get the work done is more productive. In all this time you've been here you could have already gone for a walk, meditated, or done SOMETHING.0 -
I start being a bitc** ........... and saying how people annoys me without saying names, hoping they will get the hint.
Listen to loud music or slam a door, haha works all the time0 -
Run or workout. The time you spend doing this will make up for itself in the gained focus you will achieve. Also I know I'm different but it helps me gain perspective on what I consider a big issue if I read about other peoples problems that make mine look really not so bad by comparison. Just my 2 cents0

Get to know your neighbors (bonus if they're female) and ask if you can come to their place to escape and get some studying done. Usually helps just to get away from the situation, and if you can do so with others, all the better.0
-
How old are you? If you dont like something, change it.0
-
Let's see.... Earplugs! Can you open a window in your room? (freezing them out might keep your sanity and feed your need for revenge). If not... try 15 minutes of movement (ie. dance to your own music, walk/move on the spot, lift some freeweights (soupcans if you don't have them).... then put your tunes on that you like, hunker down and get what you need done finished up.0

I would love to give you advise, but I do not have any. I am in a similar situation, and locked into a lease. I leave my house at 5:30 am on weekdays (7 am on weekends), go to the gym, shower there, and go directly to my office (I am a graduate student). I only return home to go to bed (~10 pm).0

Take a shower and a sleep aid.0

i dont waste energy being annoyed at things i cant change.
i either spring into action and think of ways to remove the annoyance and solve the problem, or i come up with a plan on how to get through it if it's a temporary situation or i just stop seeing it as an annoyance.
if it's a person then i tell them. sooner rather than later. well first i try to think about why it's annoying to me. if it's something that's annoying me because of my own issues then i work on that for myself. but if it's something valid then i will tell them. for instance i once lived in a bldg with loud neighbors who'd party at 3 am on week nights. i tried telling them to be quiet since i had to work but the next time they did it i called the police and called the landlord. every time they got too loud too late i'd call the landlord and call the police. eventually the landlord got tired of it and asked them to move0 -
BLAZE a fatty!!! Or workout really intense listening to Heavy Metal!!
Or Xbox or a case of Beer0 -
Get your flatmates stereo and smash it over their heads? I bet that would release a lot of anger :P0
-
Do push ups until you don't have enough energy to be annoyed anymore.0
