Adding back fitness calories...do you do it?

I am thinking that I am going to continue adding back my exercise calories (bc its motivating me to work harder!!) but keep my targets at 1480 for non-exercise days, 1650 for regular exercise days (1 hour) and 1900-2000 on days where I go full out for 90 minutes or more (My HRM indicates an average 900 calorie burn during these). I don't want to eat too few calories to allow for muscle growth but I don't want to prohibit fat loss either.
Do you add back your calories? Has it impacted your weight loss efforts?

I used to, and I lost weight doing it. The thing I hated about it was it felt very inorganic - I had to plan out precisely how long each workout was going to be, and then allocate meals and snacks accordingly. If I'm having fun on a late-evening run, and want to run a few more miles, I don't want to end up at 9PM with a 1000 calorie deficit. That is just uncomfortable, and I found myself eating junk to avoid it.
So I went to a nutritionist, and she was able to help me put together a more organic plan that allowed me to be both more flexible and predictable - but it required overriding the automatic goals in MFP. I'm a lot happier with how I plan out meals and exercise now (all my meals and snacks are the same size, I just eat pre-and post- workout snacks, and during if it's longer than an hour), even on rest days (which, obviously, have no workout snacks associated). So I no longer "eat back my workouts" in MFP, but simply eat to the plan, and workout the way I want. But I don't have an issue with motivation to work out - I love running and do it for fun (my main issue is eating enough)
Whatever you do, make sure you're eating enough. Undereating can stymie weight loss as much as overeating (and yes, can even cause weight gain - I've lived through proof!). Tracking my intake and finding that it was too low, without even factoring in exercise, was a big eye opener for me.
But you're burning less than 200 calories for 1 hour of exercise? That sounds a little hinky to me.0 -
Depending on the workout I burn any where from 150 (yoga) to 600 (Body Combat or Insanity)
I am only adding back 200 or so, to allow for inaccuracy in the burn reported by my HRM and to add a little boost to my weight loss efforts. My base amount is only 1lb loss a week so I figure a bit extra every day could push me closer to 1.5 which is still reasonable.0 -
I don't.
I don't trust the accuracy of machines or MFP or even HR monitors for that matter. No matter how much exercise I do or don't do on a particular day I try and hit my goal calories period.0
