Beginner.. help

Hi everyone. I'm April, 306 lbs and only 5'2". I know I am obese and really really want to change that the healthy way. I'd hate to keep yo-yoing by trying new diet fads and another "miracle" pill. I'll admit I've been that person many times. I have tried the 30 day shred and it was a bit too much for me at the weight I am at. I did the first level and about 2 or 3 days of attempting all the planking and whatnot in the second. Jumping jacks ending up giving me shin splits and I couldn't walk well for a while after. What are some beginning exercises, other than walking, that any of you would recommend?

Focus on healthy eating to begin with. This is a life change so find the foods that are good for you but that you also love. You want to feel nourished, not deprived. I never would have imagined a couple of years ago that I would choose an orange pepper as snack but now I do - and it tastes great. I love dark chocolate - 70% is my favorite. I don't care for milk chocolate anymore. That wasn't true before I changed my eating habits. It takes time, patience, experimentation, and a commitment to eating the best and healthiest foods out there. It is possible to find foods that are both healthy and delicious. Make it work for you! Once this is in place you can then focus on the exercise. :)

If you have access to any gym equipment, you could do elliptical or stationary bike. I started at 338 pounds, and for about the first 50 pound loss I did not do any exercise, I just made changes to my diet. After that I felt better and had more energy, so I started walking. Most of what I have lost has just been by walking and better diet.

I started with walking, now I'm trying to make it through the first session of couch to 5 k.

And I started strength training with a mix between http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/03/10/angry-birds-workout-plan/ and http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2009/12/09/beginner-body-weight-workout-burn-fat-build-muscle/

I tried to start Power 90, but I think it's a little too advanced for me right now, because I've been so sore for the last two days that I haven't felt like doing anything, so I'm going to go back to nerdfitness, com for a while.

Nothing wrong with walking, especially to start out. A good chunk of my exercise is walking around the park.

Diet is far more important for losing weight than exercise. Exercise is necessary for fitness.

If you're serious about losing the weight you need to make sure that you're eating properly. Once you get the diet working then you should focus on adding in exercise.
