OMG there was a time when I would have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner . . . and then my roomie would wake me up at midnight and we'd share another pack.
And we'd add a cheese slice to it now and then, sometimes a dollop of butter too, sometimes stir in some more ketchup and add in fried onions :noway: :noway:
I'd say that's the reason I gained my freshman fifteen . . .
But once in a blue moon . . .maybe
I ate some weird stuff in college but the ramen noodles with cheese and ketchup is at a different level!! :laugh: :drinker:0 -
I used to LOVE the ramen before I saw this. Now I think twice before I shell out the .12cents for lunch.0 -
I save the chicken bullion packs and when I get enough of them i unscrew the shower head and pour them in and screw it back on so when my roomate hops in the shower he gets some aroma therapy

my ex husband used to eat 3 packs at a time, every day, and couldn't figure out why he was on blood pressure meds...go figure!0

I used to eat 2 packages of ramen EVERY DAY after school when I was a kid--I was never overweight either. The "pasta makes you fat" argument is completely false.0

From scale 1 to 10, how bad are ramen noodles?
no nutrition, and loaded with salt. but sooo good0 -
To me, the dried packages (top ramen) are way up there, even past 10!
I bought the frozen ramen packages from an Asian grocery that has 'doughey' noodles and not the fried dehydrated type. The noodles are higher quality and it tastes better :blushing: (9-10 still!)
Compared to the dried packages the calorie content is about the same, more protein, the sat fat is considerably less, but the sodium is still high.
I would eat it once in a while, add meat and vegetables to it and dilute the sauce.
I am going to learn how to make noodle soup with buckwheat noodles someday.0 -

I found the nong shim hoo roo rook noodles that are baked and not fried. of course the salt content is still terrrible but you can adjust how much of the packet you put in. I make mine with bok choy, tofu and shrimp.. delicious! oh and these are 300 cals for the whole pack and $1 at my HEB store. I'd give this one a 6.0

I used to eat them raw, open bag, sprinkle salty seasoning, shake up bag - just like chips but better.
I haven't actually eaten them since I started MFP but I have 3 bags in my cupboard that I will have to do 'something' with - probably save them for the food bank donations or something like that. I have considered munching on a bag but I don't normally have 400 cal to spare these days :P0 -
Nothing wrong with them as part of a balanced diet. There is no such thing as a good or bad food on its own, it all depends on how your entire diet fits together.0

I eat them once in awhile, but I load them up with frozen vegetables too. Sometimes that is all I have time for.0

I used to eat them all the time, love the beef flavor with a bunch of hot sauce poured on. I hadn't eaten ramen in a few months and decided to eat a pack for dinner one night. Let's just say my stomach was very angry with me. That cured me missing ramen.0

Question: Is the sodium content in the little seasoning packet? If so, why not just omit that and use a little broth and cheese for flavor? It might cut down on the errrr...."badness factor". I don't really eat them, though I have had them in the past...but my son loves them.0

The instant noodles are really bad, but so addictive. I'm a big fan of the Asian instant noodles, especially the Korean ones. They are so good but one package is like 800 calories and has about 2 days worth of sodium. I can't stand the grocery store brands like Top Ramen and Maruchan but they don't have quite as much fat, sodium and calories.
I've been experimenting with homemade ramen. Fresh ramen noodles aren't fried and have a much better taste and texture. I make a simple pork and chicken broth, skim off every speck of fat, and add veggies to the soup for a light, hearty ramen. It's not as addictive as the instant noodles but I get my ramen fix without all the fat and sodium.

Totally not good, but hey- everything in moderation, right? I was sick with a nasty stomach virus last week and after two days of not eating, explosive poo and throwing up, ramen was the only thing that stayed in mah belly so I had two packages. They set me straight, but I think my sodium levels were low because normally they'll puff em up like a blowfish. I don't see the harm in having them once in a while, so long as they're worked into your calories.0

Used to use the pkg but skipped the season. Would add frozen green beans.......and cheese for flavoring...sigh. Luckily they no longer appeal to me.0

I love the noodles, but I don't use the packaged seasoning. It's really salty. I'll add the noodles to vegetable soups or as part of a stir fry.0
