Losing Inches - question

Hey guys and gals -

I have 4 1/2 weeks to go until my company Christmas party. I am currently not working out much. IF I were to start working out daily, is it possible to lose 4 inches off my chest and 4 inches off my waist in 4 weeks?

It would be about 8.5% of the circumference/measurement.

So....
1) is it possible and
2) do you have any pointers on doing it?
:flowerforyou:

In the 30 day shred thread I am certain that people has lost a few inches in just 30 days. Of course everyone is different..

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/673349-30-day-shred-result-show-us-your-before-after-pics

Maybe if you do 30 day shred and ripped in 30 at the same time it will have more of a result!
Also, counting calories, super important :)

I also have my christmas thing coming up with my company, its at the end of this month. I am done with the 30 day shred and have just started insanity.. Planning on going in hard for maximum shred before the party lol :D

hmm... are you trying to fit into a certain outfit? I don't know that anybody, even a professional trainer and nutritionist, could answer your question. But loses that huge, in my totally uneducated guess, will likely require accompaniment of a weight loss that exceeds the safe 1-2#/week. (10# total, max).

Are you not working out at all right now? I wouldn't go from nothing to everything right away. One day of rest, minimum, is typically recommended, though what qualifies as "rest" is very debatable.

Most people find good, fast results with a mix of cardio and strength training.

You will probably lose inches, but it will be from where ever your body wants to lose it. You cant spot reduce. If you want to lose inches I would watch your carb intake and make sure it is not too high and do strength training.
  • There is no magical number or solution to losing inches in certain spots. Unfortunately, we are all different so your body could lose differently than ours.

With that said you should work out regardless. Even if you don't reach that target you'll be healthier than you are now! You only have the weight to use. Just remember it's more about what you're eating. You can't lose inches and eat cheeseburgers. ;)

Well, yes, I get that there would be general weight loss, and that I couldn't bank on it being JUST there, but I have lost several inches off my chest before with a targeted weight training approach.... but I had 3 months. Of course, this is JUST a vanity thing, there is no dress in question, so if I don't quite make it, I'll live. But..... I'd really like to make it.

I'm not NOT exercising at ALL, just not regularly. I did a 5k half walk half run last Saturday and I can do an hour of Zumba class no problem so I think my body's up to the work.. I'm just not sure the results are technically possible. I believe it would be a 10-12 lb loss which is 2.5-3 lbs a week BUT I'm technically obese (5'10, 219 lb) and I only want to do that level of loss of 4 weeks, so I think it might be possible.

Or I might be delusional. Now would be the time to manage expectations. Or help me figure out how to do it. I intend to stick to an under 1600 cal intake, with one 2000 cal day a week,

Over the last 12 weeks, I've lost 15 pounds, which equated to 3 inches from my waist and 2 inches each from my hips and chest.

I think 4" might be a little too much to aim for in 4 weeks.

Also, Cyclink, I think we may be at SLIGHTLY differenty body fat percentages. Inasmuch as loosing 2" for you may be about the equivalent of loosing 4" for me. But I did not miss that it took 3 months, not one. I'm not completely crazy.

I just... I hate plus-size cocktail dresses. They are designed for under-22-year-olds and over-40-year-olds. 20 and 30 somethings are totally screwed.

Lofty expectations for someone who hasn't even started a work out program yet. Eat healthy, stay in your calorie goal, exercise, buy a new stunning outfit for the party and a pair of spanx and start thinking of this as a lifestyle not a manic race to one event.

I fell off of a workout plan. I've been doing this for 3 years now. I'm down a total of 30 lbs.

Also, I tend to look rather crap in Spanx. They refuse to stay put. They roll, or sag, they're just not made for V-shaped people. Even very large v-shaped people.

I really do appreciate you taking the time to comment. Maybe not the tenor, but definitely the effort.

It IS and staart Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred today! 30 minutes a day and those inches will be gone just in time for your party. Maybe not all 4.5 but definately most. I lost 4 inches in my mid doing the shred and 10lbs. Other things changed as well. Put in the effort and you should yeild results, your genetics will determine the vriance of those results.

It's not just plus-size cocktail dresses. They expect everybody to either be dressed like a prostitute or the queen mother, regardless of one's size. Finding a proper dress for these work events was a huge reason I stopped going to mine.

If you want to look fabulous, no matter the size, find a pattern you like, fabric you like, and take it to a tailor. You might be surprised at the cost, and it will fit you like a glove. Depending on the tailor, you might not even need a pattern, just pictures of what you're going for.
  • No guarantee of a number of inches you will loose, but my suggestion is INSANITY!

I feel bad for you! Not in a pity way but in the "if my girls stayed the same while the rest of me got smaller, I'd probably have gotten top heavy by now and fallen over" way. It always shocksme how different everyone gains and loses. I'm still the same "cup size" but both my ribs and the girls have lost equal "volume". as have my losses all around been pretty eaqual and proportioned. Most of the lsos being from the hips and mid-line but over-all a fair bit of even can be said, thankfully.

Do you do any chest weight lifting? I attribute their new flattering appearance to the fact I do a lot of chest exercises.

I think it will be very hard to lose 4" off your chest and waist in 4 weeks. You will lose some but not 4".

no worries, i get you  i feel bad for me too because right now my band size is decreasing but because my breast volume isnt changing, the cup size is increasing. so i've gone from a 36/38 G to a 34 H. i do a lof of push ups and heavy bench presses. but boobs are the FIRST place i notice weight gain, so that's probably why they are hesitant to go. maybe if i get closer to my goal they'll eventually go down.

but yeah it just goes to show you that body fat can be like honey badger in terms of doing what you want it to do.

OP just start eating right, eating a bit below your TDEE and exercising. no need to go nuts either because there's only so much you'll be able to lose in a month regardless. just find a dress that you GREAT in and rock it.
