When it's raining or snowing outside, do you let that stop you from running outdoors?

Or do you make it a treadmill day? Or even a rest day?

Talk to me!

The only conditions I won't run in are ice.

Nothing compares to running when it's snowing, especially a good trail run. Everything is beautiful and the snow quiets the world. It's unparalleled.

It rarely snows here, so I can't comment on that, but the rain's yet to stop me. I actually find running in the rain quite refreshing and relaxing, the only annoyance is when standing water and puddles get in the way of my path and there's no way round them!

new runner here, in WI. Will run in the rain, had a few sparse flakes of snow the other day too. Never ran on a treadmill, hope to avoid it as much as I can. I plan on running when it snows, will get some YakTrax or something as I am very worried about slipping. I bought a couple of tech shirts, gloves and hat for running and have yet to feel too cold even when it is just around 32 - 35 degrees. I will avoid running in the dark (early morning) once it gets snowy/icy......

The only thing guaranteed to keep me indoors is freezing rain. I run in the snow and I run in the rain. The weather is never a problem if you dress properly for it.

Running in freshly fallen snow is magical.
  • Rain or snow doesn't keep me from running outdoors, if there is much ice I put on my Yaktrax. During warm up rain, wind or cold temperatures may be a little unpleasant, but after that the weather doesn't bother me. Brian is absolutely right, you have to dress properly, and running in the snow can be magical.

i'm also a new runner- no snow here either but I'm in the Seattle area, so plenty of rain. The rain and cold doesn't stop me- I actually like running in the cool weather better than I like running when it's warmer! I stay cooler/ drier, don't get tired as quick.. pleasant over all because there's less people out. What I don't like is wet feet- but that's unavoidable apparently, and apparently you adjust to the feeling over time... I'm also told the socks make a huge difference, there's a brand called road runner I think- I'm told those are good for not FEELING like your feet are sopping wet.

What does everyone else do about wet feet? Are there shoes that are better than others for the moisture?
