Hello,Hello, Hello

Hi. I am new around here. Nice to meet you.

Quickly, my story. I have always been a big dude. Was in the 400 pound range in high school (late '80's) and pretty active in sports. After H.S. things only became worse as the physical activity was reduced drastically. In the early 90's I went on Jenny Craig and started at 437 pounds and in a year and a week lost 220 pounds. The problem was that I didn't learn anything...............so................fast forward about 15 years. I gained it all back plus the weight of an average 7th grader.

Then things got really bad. (not whining) just the truth. I hurt my back to the point that I couldn't walk..........also known as "ROCK BOTTOM"

March of 2010 I started a weight loss journey and I have basically been "winging it." Started at 565 pounds and have fairly slowly lost 189 pounds. It has been in chunks though. I will lose 40 pounds over 2 months and then lose not much for a while.

I am still limited by my back issue but I can walk some and I can ride the exercise bike.

I am hoping to pick up some "buddies" for inspiration. (my very cool sister told me about this place)

Also hoping to learn a little more about what I (we) are doing......which leads me to this question. I have settled into a calorie intake range of around 1600 -1800 per day. I rarely feel hungry in my current "system." The question is this. I am now riding the bike fairly vigorously 70-100 minutes a day. I don't really feel like eating more.

Is this unhealthy?

Thanks.....and Cheers to you all!!!

The best advice is to just listen to your body eat when you are hungry.

And really LISTEN!! Be aware of false hungers, cravings, binges and pitfalls like that. Drink a lot of water and eat healthy food. Keep up the good work!

Hi Bob! Welcome to MFP - great place to be....there's plenty of information on here and lots to learn. Remember you want to make permanent changes to your life style. These are not temporary things...you are not on a "diet"...you want to move towards eating healthier, making better choices, doing things that will better "you".

If you are doing okay on those calories...I'd say stick with it; however you could always talk to a doctor to see what they suggest. I don't know your health (besides your back). Try to get lots of different foods into your day: lots of vegetables, fruits (all the colors of the rainbow for fruits & vegetables), lean meats, whole grains, low fat dairy, nuts/seeds.

    Any exercise is good exercise.

If you meals are split thoughout the day and you are feeling ok on that low of calories i would continue with it.

I find waiting until i am hungry is too late. Scheduled meal times works much better, I am not starving, I don't snack, and I don't binge. Of course some treats in moderations are a nice reward for al lthe hardwork. Oh and don'tbe fooled by fruits - they are high in sugar, treat them like a carb. Veggies are the way to go.

There will always be someone telling you that you need to eat more, and/or eat back your exercise calories, but I know at least for me, I cannot do it or I don't lose. I figure if I am not hungry, and the energy level is good, I am fine.

    Good luck in your journey!

    Welcome!

If I was going to give you some useful advice, I'd recommend going to this thread :
    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12

Read the first post (Helloitsdan) and work out your numbers. It's a great way to make sure you're eating what is necessary and not just the numbers that MFP gives you.
