(Another one of those dividing issues on MFP where people are firmly on one side or the other.)

    In...

    ...for the drama.

Haha I had no idea gloves could be so controversial...sigh.

    Really?

    You must be new here.

Nahh I just usually stay away from the message boards because people are ridiculous! I found what I was looking for at femmefitale.com--thanks to the helpful ladies!

    Yes...yes they are.

Glad you found what you needed from this thread before it spiraled completely out of control. At least stick around and watch the carnage you created.

Ohh man I'm not sure if I want to haha where's the "delete thread" button ;)

thanks for the femmefitale link! i've been looking for some cute ones as well. and anyone who tells me to build up callouses can kiss my *kitten*

i'm not trying to have my hands look and feel like i work on a freaking chain gang!
  • I wear gloves - and I seriously do not GAF what anyone on this board has to say about it. My hands get wayyyyy too sweaty and slip without them - chalk or not. Using gloves does not make me any less of a lifter than anyone else. P.S. I got mine on amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Harbinger-Power-Womens-StretchBack-Gloves/dp/B000GDC2QG/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1352395995&sr=8-13&keywords=lifting+gloves
There are several styles and colors available on that site - just read reviews.

I like how there are a zillion posts about the impending carnage and no actual carnage to speak of. Go ladies! :drinker:

The research I've done (mostly on bodybuilding.com and StrongLifts) suggests that gloves don't help prevent calluses and can actually weaken grip strength. BUT -- many people enjoy using them and find them helpful. If having a cute, fun accessory helps keep you motivated, I say more power (and strength) to you. :flowerforyou:

lifting gloves just get in the way. you will build up callouses and you wont need gloves.

i think that's what she's hoping to avoid

but they arent that bad to have, as long as you still dont let your hands dry out. my hands are still soft :-)

I got mine from femme fitale too. I lurve them.

Edit: I actually got gloves *because* of my callouses. My dead lifts were pinching my rock climbing callouses and ripping my hands apart.

Same here, except I got my calluses from glove-less deadlifting. It was okay in the beginning, but as the weight got heavier, my hands just couldn't deal with it. After one set literally ripped my calluses out of my palms, I knew it was time to buy myself a pair of gloves.

I don't mind having calluses. I just don't want them ripped off of me!

I've never been a big fan of gloves - maybe because they fall in the clothes category?

Anyway, this thread makes me smile. Thanks for the reminder that men and women have many more differences than biology. The notion of caring about the aesthetics of workout gloves is absolutely incomprehensible to me.

I bet your hands are perfectly soft. I don't doubt that for a second. I just feel it's a personal choice that everybody gets to make for themselves. Wear them, don't wear them, doesn't make a difference to me. But people on MFP* line up to call somebody a p**** if they wear gloves. Odd, because these is maybe the least hardcore fitness site on the entire internet.

*Note: not saying you are doing this or have ever done this. I've never seen you do it.

True. Sometimes, even the "sure thing" posts like BBV or Shakeology fail to deliver their usual entertainment. It's still early for this one though. Too soon to call it yet.

I'm kinda attached to my callouses. I feel like i've earnt them over the past few months haha. Besides we get so many old ladies wearing weight lifting gloves whilst messing about with the weight machines in the gym it has put me right off them!

    I like Femme Fitale :)

    Femmefitale.com

Yes! That's it! Super cute ones! I've put the zebra ones on my Christmas list, because, yes, I wear gloves.
