I'm done being squishy, weightroom here I come!

I have been inspired by some awesome success stories of women who lift weights. i have been doing some research and today at the gym, instead of running myself stupid on the treadmill, I did a short 20 minute run, and then I ventured into the weightroom (ahhh scary i know!) I am so excited to begin this journey, I started paying attention the last few time as the gym and I saw women on the elliptical for like an hour and they are skinny, but jiggly. They work so hard but still got the jiggle. Sooo I have hidden my scale in the closet lol and upped my calories a little bit and cleaned up my refrigerator, so here we go! Will happily accept some advice from those who have been there done that :)

That's fantastic! Hopefully you will really like it. I'm a few months in to lifting and it's definitely been a journey. I started with machines but quickly moved over to free weights. It was intimidating at first but I started with a few things and then gradually added more. A little while later I ventured over to the barbell chest press and squats. My point being don't feel like you have to go full monty right away. It's OK if it takes a bit to figure out what works for you. Enjoy!

Yes yes yes! I'm super happy about this. You can do it! Yup the days of cardio queens is over, notice they really don't change year after year? Don't get me wrong, cardio is good for you, but it really does not change your shape. I can't wait to hear a report about your weight lifting 6 months from now! Whoo hooo! Way to go. :):):)

Yay!!! I'm all for more women getting into the weight room. Feel free to add me as a friend. I've been lifting heavy for about 6 weeks, mostly free weights. More than happy to answer any questions you might have

Yay thanks! I am a nursing school and we are talking about muscles and nutrition and yeah cardio is good for your heart but when it comes to osteoperosis and things like that, weight bearing exercise is really important.

Don't let people make it complicated for you. All that matters is calories. Of course you need to eat enough protein, a little good fat, and enough carbs to give you energy, but that's it. You don't have to fret about macros. MFP goals are close enough. Find what makes you feel best. I'm typically happier with more protein and less carbs compared to the MFP percentages so I went and changed them in the goal setting. It does not have to be perfect. Just eat as healthy as you can.

MFP is close. All online calorie tools are just a starting place, an estimate. To find the exact calories needed for YOU to be in a healthy sustainable calorie deficit is the right answer. Wait, if you need to adjust by 100 do it, wait, adjust, wait, adjust, wait. The tortoise wins this race.

All that matters is calories. A healthy balanced diet within a calorie budget for a deficit that is right for YOU is all that matters for weight loss. Don't make it complicated.

    You can do it. :)

I find that I have a hard time eating all my calories, but protein gives me good energy. I upped it on my food diary. I am having trouble with sugar. I am logging and taking a good look at where my sugar is coming from and changing it that way.

I still do love cardio. Today I did 20 mins of elliptical, lifted, then walked on the treadmill at an incline for about 10 minutes just to collect my thoughts and cool down. Thanks so much for all the advice :)

Yes it's scary but put on your big girl shoes and strut on in there! You may not be able to lift as much as others there, but just by being there and giving it a go makes you awesome!
