Subtracting Fiber Intake From Daily Carb Intake - Anyone?

I was reading the attached article which states that those who watch calories and eat a lot of fiber can deduct the fiber count from the carb count. Anyone interested can read the attached. Before I get happy, I need one of our experts to weigh in because somedays I can easily triple my daily fiber allowance.
The article does not go into specifics but what would be the benefit of doing this?

If you are doing a low carb diet, you only count the net carbs. That is the number of carbs minus the dietary fiber. It is explained at the Atkins.com website. It is also how the south beach diet works. You can eat sugar substitute foods after you get your cravings under control. Sometimes, the sugar free foods will still cause you to crave sugar.0

I think this is the basis for how the Weight Watchers system figures points. However, this site focuses more on total and net calories, so I'm not sure how it will help you in your numbers. I guess it all boils down to what works best for you in order to achieve your goal.0
