Paleo diet

I was just wondering if anyone else on here is doing the paleo diet. It has been about a month, with a couple times cheating. I love it so far, I feel myself getting into better shape even with out changing my exercise habits. Plus I have more energy. It is hard to stay away from the dairy and grains but I am doing it, there are awesome alternatives out there. I am now making my own nut and coconut granola bars in the dehydrator. I also don't eat any foods from the nightshade family, which cause inflammation (so no potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant. I think I miss the spicy peppers the most).

Hi, I'm not doing the paleo diet, but I have known many people that have benefited greatly from it. I think we all benefit when we lose excess sugar and carbs from wheat and other grains. I am a physician and met another physician that was sick his whole life with serious digestive complaints. When he retired at 65 he tried out the paleo diet and was cured of his ailments. It's a healthy diet if you follow the rules, like meat should lean cut pasteur fed and organic, veggies and fruit should be organic. It sounds like you've found a good diet plan for you!0

People go on diets and lose weight. Then they go off the diet and chow the spicy peppers they have been depriving themselves of- plus all the other stuff they didn't eat on the diet and they typically gain the weight back (and then some). I believe that a lifestyle change is a more permanent solution- so if you can do the paleo diet forever and be happpy, go for it!
Myself- I gave up wheat three months ago. I did this because I can't eat just one slice of bread- and when they servie bread at the restaurants, I tend to pig out on it. Cookies, cupcakes, deep fried foods, mmm tortillas, pies, gravies, chowders, and so on- they all have wheat in them, and they are all high calorie. People eat bread in front of me and apologize about it- but I don't feel deprived because it is my CHOICE not to eat wheat. I am free from wishing I could, because I can if I want to- I just choose not to (now if I could just make time for exercise more often, I'd be good!)0 -
Yeah my only thing I am having trouble letting go of is the sugar. I sometimes eat dark chocolate with sugar. Every day I eat honey, which is ok on the paleo diet. Going with out the grains is ok for me because I have been gluten free for over 3 years. I do have a lot of digestive upset so I am looking forward to that going away. ANd to prevent disease!
I have been able to see others eat non paleo food and be ok with it. In fact I still slice my son cheese every day and haven't touched it in a month. I am actually to the point where I don't even want it. I thought it would be cheese that I would miss the most. My natropath said eventually I can try goat milk cheese because it is better for your gut than cows milk cheese.0 -
Yeah cheese is the reason I have never been a vegan! Smoked Salmon upgraded me from vegetarian to pescotarian, and my wonderful boyfriend and bacon made me go back to light carnivor, lol. I really like yogurt too. :flowerforyou:0
