Too fat to ride roller coasters at theme parks.

Not too long ago, I bought a year round pass for myself, and my girlfriend bought one for her and her son to Busch Gardens, Tampa, FL. We had a wonderful time looking at the animals. I ended up walking up to Shreekra. They have a seat at the beginning of the line to make sure you can fit the seat. Boy I was not squeezing into that chair. There was no way in heck I was ever riding any roller coasters. You know how bad that made me feel? Pretty bad. I went that whole year never riding one roller coaster any time we went. Some of the roller coasters had a larger size chair, but I was too fat for that one as well. How depressing. Isn't that what you go to a theme park for? To ride rides? I was basically a chaperone to my stepson. Not much to ride when you are 350 plus. Sufficive to say, I did not renew my year pass.
This year, I started making big changes. I haven't given up on riding roller coasters. I think I finally fit the big boy chair (304 now). I will be waiting till I hit 250 to buy a pass again (next summer). To all of you who are that person who can't ride roller coasters, just remember, It's your decision. Decide to change, get support, and you will make it happen. Make that choice to be a better person. You will be having the thrill of your life once again when you can ride those roller coasters. You'll also have the thrill of your life knowing you just completely changed your body. Keep striving for greatness. If you need some help with your support. I am only one person, I know for a fact that one person can make a difference.

That is awesome! Just think of all the other things you'll be able to do more comfortably. Like sit in a seat on an airplane. Be comfortable in a sports stadium seat. Come on, think of some more. These are your motivators!
And, :flowerforyou: , who says we can't give flowers to guys?!?!?!?0 -
Another motivator for me is to be able to use the scale at Publix Supermarket. It only goes to 300. I'm so close to being able to check my weight while I am shopping.0

I know for me, I can finally be able to shop at the regular size stores. Finally out of the "Big and Tall" Sizes (3x and above). I can finally walk into Nautica or Tommy Hilfiger store and buy normal clothes. Not being able to wear what I liked was a real bummer for a while. Not any more. Making changes every day to be a better person than I was yesterday.0

When I was a kid we were at Darien Lake and they had just built the Batman rollercoaster. A poor woman was too big for the seat but managed to get herself buckled in. When the train got back, it took 3-4 workers to get the seat to release. The woman was crying and humiliated. I have often wondered what ever happened to her. I hope she's gotten her weight under control and gets to ride any coaster she wants. Good luck to you in your journey. You CAN do this.0

Isn't weight loss and all the things associated with it just SOO motivating? It's so rewarding, even if it's just the little things. I love your enthusiasm and confidence, which furthers your motivation. Keep up the great work!
I'd love to be able to wear a tank and leggings to the gym.0 -
I can tell you from experience that it is AMAZING getting into those seats again (or for the first time)! I had a few rides besides coasters that I couldn't fit the seat belts around me and this summer I was able to ride every. single. ride. It was awesome. And my kids were so happy that I could go with them. I had been too big for their entire lives and they hadn't seen me ride more than one or two rides ever.
Good luck to you and I know you will be crazy excited next summer when you are back on those coasters!0 -

^^^THIS! Oh, yes, ^^^THIS! I finally switched from long sleeved sweat shirts to a short sleeved tee-shirt the other day. It was liberating. And I keep eyeing the leggins. Not yet, but soon!
Thanks to the OP for mentioning the clothes aspect. Have another: :flowerforyou:0 -
I tried to get on the old wooden roller coaster at Dollywood two years ago. My Husband and one of the workers were pushing on it trying to get it to latch. I told them to stop and just let me get off. I had just rode it like ten times the year before. I gained that much weight that quick. That was the worst walk of shame going back out the entrance line with everybody looking a me knowing why I could not ride.
Good Luck! I will ride that darn coaster next year, and you will ride yours to!!!!!!!!!!0 -

There was one time I was 310 (I remember) I ended up getting on Montu (like the Batman ride at six flags, chairs are under the track). I barely fit the big boy chair. It took all my might to suck it in to get it to click. Totally feel for that woman you are taling about. I was there myself. I was fortunate to not have problems getting it unbuckled, but it was the first and last time I ever rode a roller coaster (2008). It sucks to know you can't fit the normal chairs. I'll get there very soon. Dedicated to the cause.0 -
I totally hear you. I remember when I got up to 220 and couldn't fit in most of the seats at Cedar Point anymore. I carry my weight in my butt/hips/thighs, so there was noooooo way I could squeeze in. The rides with upper body restraints were fine, but I couldn't ride some of the rides with seatbelts and safety bars. It was so embarrassing.
One of my big goals in my "mini goals" list is to get under 200 so I can go to theme parks again. I LOVE roller coasters, and I used to go to Cedar Point and other theme parks every few weeks during the summer. I really miss it. Whenever people ask why I'm losing weight, I say, "I want to ride roller coasters... oh, and be healthy, blah blah blah."
As soon as I get small enough, I'm going to do a theme park tour of the U.S. I've never been to Kennywood, so that's second on the list after Cedar Point. The last time I went to CP, Millennium Force was the new ride (and I just barely fit), so I have a lot of catching up to do.0 -

It sure is, and for me, the weight has been coming off quick like. I haven't had a bad week yet since I started here. Keep it up, and you will achieve that goal (wearing a tank and leggings to the gym, and knowing you look good in it).0 -

Cedar point rocks!! I have family that lives in Akron OH. I haven't personally been to Cedar Point since I was 10 with my grandma. My girl friend wants for her, her son, and I go to up there, but I told her we need to wait. I want to enjoy myself at a theme park and be able to ride all the rids. She's a very patient woman. I expect by the end of the year to have a trip planned to go up north. I've seen some of your other posts, and I see you are motivated. Keep it up. You will get there. If you need some motivation, look me up. I'll accept your request.0 -
I TOTALLY understand this. I too am too big for roller coasters. i am 6'5" tall and at one point a couple years ago was atleast 378 lbs. I live about an hour from Cedar Point in Sandusky OH, and as a kid we never went. as i got older i started going once or twice a year. i love them. the last several years im back to not going. my fiance talked me into going a couple years ago. I tried to get on maxx air. the person buckling me in tried their best several times to get it to buckle. it did buckle but the safety latch wouldn't. so i had to make the walk of shame and stand there watching my fiance and friends ride without me. Its humiliating. i found one ride that i could fit and stuck with riding that ride over and over again. we did try power towers. hardly any line, i ended up holding everyones sunglasses and sandals. they couldn't get it buckled again. i wanted to cry and well to be honest i did cry. as a child i wasn't taken to these things to enjoy them, as an adult when i can enjoy them i am too fat. so IM DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THAT NOW. down 60 lbs and still going.
p.s. i tried sitting in one of those measure yourself by this seat thing on the dragster ride. i would have to lose ALOT more weight for that ride. it wasn't even remotely close to buckling.0 -

At least you're here now, and if you keep working, next time, that won't happen. You'll get there.0 -

I read your other post about losing your first 50 lbs. Congratz. Dedication my fiend is what you have. Keep up the great work. You'll be flying high in a roller coaster in no time.0 -

I'm glad I could raise those cheeks to bring a smile to your face. Being able to ride roller coasters should be every ones right.0 -

Isn't that the best? Knowing you can actually ride something that shoots you to nearly 80 miles an hr, and takes you through loops, twists, and turns? Total Adrenaline rush on multiple levels!!!0 -
I'm going to Busch gardens in a few weeks. By any chance do you remember the coasters you were able to ride? And which ones had bigger seats? I'm trying to convince myself to altleast try to ride since I've lost some weight.0

I've never been a big fan of theme parks but (somewhat related) I've always wanted to do one of those race car driving experiences. There is no way whatsoever I could even begin to get in the car (for those that aren't aware, the doors don't open so you have to climb in through the window).
I'll do it one day.0 -

Awesome! Try to think in smaller increments. I know when I think about the entire amount I am needing to lose, it can be overwhelming. Personally I have not set any goals or time frames, just making sure I do everything I can to eventually get there. You will too!0
