Hi! I have been dieting and truly exercising for a few weeks now. All of a sudden, this week, I am finding that I am crashing in the afternoon! I eat a healthy lunch, nothing too heavy. I have a piece of fruit as my snack in the afternoon, but I could just close my eyes and go to sleep on my desk!!! I do have a small cold, but I don't feel bad! Help!!!! Ideas???

My first guess is you are not getting enough calories, but I cannot see your diary or goals to confirm this. What are your goals and how much are you taking in, and are you eating your exercise calories?

It could also be water intake, make sure to get a minimum of 8 8Oz glasses per day.

Are you eating any carbs, I know they can be bad, but are good in small amounts as well. They provide our bodies with energy, so if you are eating 0 carbs, it could cause you to be tired.

How about TOM? I know I get fatigued real easy when I know my "friend" is due.

Don't rule out the cold. Your body is working overtime to keep you healthy, so you might not be getting as restful the sleep as you are used to. Drink more, eat a tiny bit more, ease up 10% on your workouts, and force yourself to get some extra sleep. Hope you feel better.

Check your carb limit and how many you ate today. If you have TOO many carbs, you'll be tired.
  • also do you take vitamins? I take a multivitamin in the mornings with my breakfast and i take a B 12 vitamin after lunch. Seems to help with those afternoon tired or sleepy spells. And vitamins are good for you.

Um...people who don;t eat carbs are the ones who don't have energy...carbs are not bad. Refined sugar and white flour can spike your blood sugar and make you feel tired on the down side of the crash, but YOUR BODY NEEDS CARBS!!! Get the phrase "Carbs are Bad" out of your head. It's not CARBS, it's refined items and artificial sweeteners!

i had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago. I started watching my carbs, and also started a mulitvitiman with b complex in it. Also I had a sinus infection brewing. Dont be afraid to rest. It may be your bodys way of saying ease up for a day or so.

Pay attention to they tpye of carbs you are eating. You want to eat complex carbs not the simple carbs. Make sure you are balancing it out with protein and good fat.

I find that, since I started eating healthy and on a regular schedule, I never get hungry anymore. That is, I don't feel those 'pangs'. Instead, I get TIRED. I'll go from fine to yawning like crazy in less than a half an hour. When I start yawning in the middle of the day, I know it's my cue to get some food in me, pronto! Usually an apple or some carrots or a piece of cheese is enough to get my energy back up.

Of course, I'm assuming you're getting enough sleep every night. :)
  • I am getting plenty of sleep at night and I'm eating the right amount and type of Carbs. I do take a daily vitamin. I am having trouble meeting the calories for the day. I'm full with each meal and eating the right amount from each food group. (sorry my food diary is done on a different site) Maybe that is my trouble..... I do think my cold is playing into it... and TOM....Thanks everyone!! Very helpful!!! =)
