Short ladies - how many calories do you take in a day?

I'm 38, 5'1, and work a desk job 8 hrs a week. I'm curious how many calories other short women take in a day and still lose weight. I try to walk three to four days a week. I'm currently trying the 1200 calories, but it seems so hard:sad:

Looking for friends around my heigth and age that check in daily. I'm gonna do this and stick to it. I've already decided that the Holidays is not a free for all food binge. I will splurge SOME, but not overdo it.

  • I'm 5'2 and also work a desk job.I'm sticking to 1200 calories too. It is hard but it's working.

My plan is to only splurge on the actual holiday. Of course this is hard to since people keep bringing this wonderful food in to work. Thank goodness for veggie trays!

Hi, I'm 5'2" and I'm also on 1200 calories a day. It is a very hard limit to stick to but I always work at earning exercise calories which I can then eat on top. Generally I end up on about 1500 calories a day which is a good amount. My weightloss has slowed down now as I get closer to goal but I'm still losing 1 to 2lbs a week. I check in daily so feel free to add me if you'd like some extra support x

    5'1" 1200 desk job! It's hard on days I don't run - but I find I gain if I add more.
  • I am 5'3. I take in about 1,200 to 1,300 on most days. Sometimes more because I workout. I burn about 800 calories a day...

    I'm 4ft 10in, 20 years old. I'm at 1700 and I lose 0.5lb per week. My maintenance is 2000.
  • I don't know if I'm considered short at 5'5'', but my intake averages 1300 a day before exercise. :)

I'm 5'2" and work at a desk job.
On days that I lift small muscle groups, such as arms, & shoulders, My calorie goal is 1400-1500.
Heavy lifting days (back, chest, legs) I aim for at least 1700. If I'm really hungry, I will eat more (sometimes even up to 2000). I go by what my body tells me. If I'm hungry, I don't deprive myself, I eat!

I'm at 1800 for a goal, basically maintaining on the scale but shrinking slowly and gradually.

    ETA: I'm also 5'2".

1650 calories a day (I don't eat back my exercise calories, so I end up with a net of 1200-1300 usually)
I have lost around 7lbs but a ton of inches and noticable amount of bodyfat. You don't need to be able to go to the gym for hours, I rarely work out for more than an hour max.

50 here @ 5'1 and stay at between 1200 - 1300 a day including days I exercise. I don't really seem to have a problem sticking to that amount. I have my "eating" routine down that may be boring to some..but it works for me.

I've lost 30 lbs since starting on July 5th of this year.

I'm 5'1", 115 lbs. I maintain at 1695 and my exercise is factored in to that. 1200 is way too low, sure it will work in the beginning but will be much more difficult long term. Best advice I got was to figure out TDEE and eat at a 10 - 15% deficit.

I am 5'3" and currently weigh 132. Right now I am a full-time college student, so I am sitting a lot as well. I do work out almost every day, but I recently reduced my caloric intake to under 1500. I think it depends on what you are eating more than the caloric intake. I find that I can take in more calories if I eat more fruits and vegetables. But I'm a total sugar addict, so I struggle with that. . .

I work out 6 times a week at the gym burning 700-1000 on each of those days.
I'm consuming 1350 at the moment,
And will probably up it to 1450 eventually, cause my body needs all the fuel (otherwise I get sooo hungry cause I burn so much!)
But I'll be upping it sloowly overtime so I don't gain weight :)

...the more you workout, and the more you lose, and the leaner you become: FUEL yourself so it lasts...

5'0...49 yrs old. To lose 1/2lb a week MFP has set me to 1300 cals. It actaully comes out to less than half a pound a week when I do the math.

I find it very difficult to hit that target...short folks get ripped off. Bummer!
  • I'm 5'5" and take in anywhere from 1200-1400 a day. :)

I am 5 even with a desk job and have my goal set to 1670. I usually end up eating around 1400-1700 depending how hungry I am that day. I try to work out about 4 times a week and will sometimes eat some of the calories back. Usually i eat them back on the weekend. During the week, I workout after the kids go to bed so hate eating that late. I started on MFP at the beginning of September and have lost 14 pounds.

I'm 26 and 5'2"...I work a desk job and have about 2.5hrs of commuting every day where I sit on my butt.

I started out by logging without trying to hit a goal, just to see what my baseline was. It was scary and disgusting. MFP told me to eat 1200 calories a day but for fear of pounding a pan of brownies due to the stress of such a drastic change, I started cutting from my baseline instead at first. Once I started to get used to packing my breakfast/lunch/snacks every day, I dropped down to 1300 calories (1200 made me VERY cranky). I didn't really exercise other than walking from the train station and taking the stairs to the 5th floor.

I dropped all my weight by eating at a net of 1300 calories (about 25lbs including what I lost pre-MFP) and not exercising. Once I started exercising, I was starving and felt weak during workouts so I upped it to 1500 (I was doing the 30 Day Shred DVD). Now I net 1670, work out 5x/week at the gym (3 days of cardio & abs, 2 days strength), sometimes go a little over on calories, take weekends off from logging and I've been cycling in the same 3 pound range for a couple months.

My advice is to do what you feel is realistic and manageable. If MFP tells you 1200 but for now, you can only really limit to 1300, do 1300 for a while and then gradually dip to 1200 if you need to. I'd rather succeed at 1300 and take longer than fail at 1200 because it's too restrictive. And look into lower calorie snacks, especially high fiber ones. I'm a fan of 2 wasa crackers with a wedge of laughing cow light spreadable cheese. It's a substantial snack for under 100 calories. There are a lot of ways to cut a few calories here and there and it adds up. For instance, I went from 2 sugars, 2 creamers in my tea down to 1 of each. If I do that every day for a year, that's 9,125 calories. I also cut out soda/juice/beer/etc for the average day. I try not to drink my calories (other than my tea once a day) and it's an easy way to make sure you're getting the most bang for your calorie buck.

    I am 5'3" and I eat 1500. I first tried 1200 and wasn't happy, and it wasn't losing.
Since moving to 1500 and working out at least 4 days a week, i've been steadily dropping.

I also work a desk job, but try to walk on my lunches and I do not eat back my exercise calories.

I'm 5'3", sit a lot at work, but make myself get up and walk around as much as possible. When I started losing, was just walking the dog most days and working out hard on the weekends (2 hours Saturday and Sunday, mix of cardio and weights). I ate 1650 every day and lost about 1 pound a week (a little more than that at the beginning, a little less near the end). When I had almost reached my goal, upped my workouts to cardio 5 days and weights 3 days (Saturdays and Sundays I did both) with one day off (except for the dog walk) and upped my calories to 1850. Still lost about .8 lbs. per week to goal and beyond.

I'm 47 and in early menopause. If I can do it, anyone can.

I'm 5'2". I do not work a desk job and I'm not sedentary. I'm also not trying to lose weight, but always working on body composition and fitness. I eat around 1800 to 2200 a day (once in a while less and once and a while more), but average around 1850 to 2000 a day. I did slowly lose some weight at 1800 (but maybe I was eating less on some days) and increased it (I'm still seeing body composition improvement).
