Hi,

Do you have to drink 8 glasses of water or can you count other
liquids towards total. It's not that I don't like water, but I love to
drink diet coke and coffee with fat free half and half.
Thanks,
Edie

    Other liquids count.
  • I can't comment on diet soda (not sure of the content), but my understanding about coffee, is that caffeine actually causes the body to lose water, so you'd probably want to drink a bit more water to go with that. If its decaf, i guess that wouldn't be relevant.

This is a misconception. The diuretic effect of caffeine isn't as pronounced as people make it out to be.

I believe you don't count it at a 1:1 ratio for other things. Not sure though.

The "8 glasses of water a day" recommendation is a myth. See e.g. http://www.snopes.com/medical/myths/8glasses.asp

^ This. That being said, I still drink 17 - 19 cups of pure water a day because I like it. That's on top of my 3-6 cups of coffee and 2-3 Coke Zero's.
