Anyone else lose weight monthly instead of weekly?

Just curious. When I first started, I saw a weekly loss. Then after a while it got to where I would stay the same weight (or close to it) for 3 weeks to a month, then show a loss. Was frustrating at first, but I have learned to focus on other things now, like fat loss, strength gains, energy level, etc.
So how does your weight come off? Is it really spikey, like mine, or is it more linear? I know weight loss isn't linear, but it is more linear for some than it is for others.

I lose weight in spurts. I can stay the same weight for 4-5 weeks, then lose 5-7 pounds in ten days. I've figured out over the last 18 months its just the pattern my body loses in, whether or not I change things up or not. If I stick with my average calories and workouts, I WILL lose over time, I just have to be patient.

I also have wild fluctuations with water retainage and I've learned to take that in stride too. I can gain 4 lbs overnight when I eat too much sodium or do a really hard workout that leaves me sore. Two to three days later, that will be gone.

Exactly. It's been a lesson in patience for me too. That's for sure.

^^^ Yeah, what Scarlett said pretty much. Except my body's more prone to just gain in spurts. Ha ha ha. I think non-linear weight loss is more common than steady loss.

I'm losing around 2lbs a month now which I know will get me to my goal weight in the time frame I had originally set myself, but my goodness it can be disheartening when I see my friends still losing 2-3lbs a week!

I plan to weigh myself only once per month in the future. My weight loss graph always looked something like this WWWWWW (with a gradual trending downward); it drove me crazy.

I would be better off weighing once a month. I still weigh daily, I just don't put much stock in it.

I lose in spurts as well. One month I'll lose really well and then the next month I'll be lucky to lose 1 lb. It's frustrating I still have 50-60 lbs to lose you would think it would be easier.

It is frustrating, definitely. When you're losing well, sometimes you can be like "Wow! It is only going to take me this long to get to my goal...." Then it slows down again. Haha!
I have just learned to accept it. Might as well. Nothing I can do to change it.

I was starting to think there was something I was screwing up, or maybe I was recording stuff in MFP wrong, or not accounting properly, or something else. I will go 2-3 weeks with no loss, and then all of a sudden, I'll show a loss of 3-5lbs in one week.

It was starting to take a toll on my motivation levels and I was getting to a point of "ok, screw it, I'm gonna enjoy myself this week.". I'm glad it's "normal" per say and seeing that others have the same issues is rather refreshing.

my body is doing this right now. Last year when I first joined MFP, I was showing a loss of a pound a week and was down 21 pounds before I lost motivation. I started back up in August and have only shown a loss of a pound a month and the rest of the month my weight yo-yos. I honestly thought I was the only one. I will admit that this time around, I feel like there are times where I don't make the right food choices, but I have been very consistent with my exercise regimen. I believe that I am losing more inches right now, because pants that were tight on me in august, now fit comfortably, even though I've only lost 4.5 pounds.

I know I don't make the right food choices, as far as others are concerned, but I try to stay within calories and attempt to hit my macros, but don't stress over it. I haven't lost anything in about 3 weeks now, but I am wearing a pair of pants today, I couldn't wear a month ago, so can identify with you on that.
I think there are a lot of people out there who are living with losing like this and wondering if they are the only ones, or what they are doing wrong.
  • I don't know if this applies to you, but I have been only losing during TOM...weird, I know...but it's better then nothing! When I had a lot of weight to lose, I was losing it weekly. Now...I will take whatever I can get!!

Mine seems to be working the same way...lose a couple pounds in a week, then stall for 2-3 weeks. I have found that my measurements are going down. I get weighed, measured & my body fat done once a month. So I have learned the scale is only a number and I should not be upset if it is not moving...however human nature it still bothers me once in a while. :grumble:

This is exactly what it's been like for me since late September, early October. Very FRUSTRATING!
