i'm getting so confused and frustrated

everything i look up and research about weight loss is different. some are saying you need to start off eating like 3000 calories and go down to 2000, then 1500. but others are saying just eat less, healthier and exercise. like seriously, i'm just confused.

PLEASE, ALL i need to know is i'm eating 1500 calories a day, work out 30 minutes a day(i plan to increase my exercise as i lose weight), i'm eating way healthier. i used to eat fast food every day, now i let myself have a burger once on weekends, and i still workout.

is this good just for starting out? i'm only on week 2 and i lost 3.3 lbs my first 5 days. so it seems to be working. but from what i've been hearing, i wont lose any weight after the first week.

i drink a LOT of cold water, cold green tea. and i have 1 glass of 1% milk a day. i never drink pop, i dont add sugar to anything.

i have oatmeal, or eggs for breakfast. i eat white chicken, or fish. and i have salads, with tomatoes, red peppers. i incorporate fruits and vegges for my snacks.

will i be successful?

oh and i also do some weight training and lunges with my cardio.

Don't know your specifics but seems like you're doing fine. Keep going, it's only been 2 weeks and you've already had progress...

Are you actually using the site? Based on your post, it seems unlikely. If you put in your statistics (height, weight, age, gender, etc.) and desired weight loss, the site will calculate how many calories you should consume and lose weight.

and when i set it to a 2lb loss per week, it says i should only eat 1290 cals per day. that seems low. 1 lb is 1700 cals per day. that seems high, considering my bmr is 1700 cals per day.

anyway, i just changed it to 1.5 lbs per week, and it says 1540, so i guess i'll go with this.
  • Here's the cliche "everyone is different post". But it's true: everyone's body IS different. My boyfriend and I cut calories to 1500 and everyone on MFP said it was bad because we hadn't gone by what MFP said. Anyway, we ended up putting our own numbers in and calculating to see what it said, and it had me to 1200 calories a day and I lost a lot. Then I heard people judge that and say that you should do the BMI and TDEE method, which we did for a while; however, I stopped losing. I went on a weight stall for one month. My boyfriend is consistently losing through that way though. I changed my goals around a little through MFP and am on a 1400ish calories a day, and usually eat under that, and have been losing. The point is, everyone is different, and because of that, there isn't a single way for everyone to lose weight. I would experiment. Try something for a few weeks, and if you aren't losing, then change it up.

Be guided by what MFP calculates your calories at given the information you put in eg weight, height, goal weight andhow much you want to lose each week. This worked for me initially, I lost 22kg just walking and eating what MFP suggested. When your weight then starts to stall you may have to investigate and try different things (me at the moment).

If your bmr is 1700 calories then 1700 calories per day is NOT too low. Your bmr is how many calories it takes to keep you alive. You shouldn't eat below this unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
  • Also, success is subjective. The only way to guarantee success is to stick with your lifestyle change (I say that instead of diet because if you diet, you will eventually get off the diet and go to old habits).

If you select 2lbs a week MFP will give you 1200 calories. That's too too low. There's no need to be that restrictive, weight loss is the most successful when you do it slowly. 1500, as you stated in your post, is a great place to start. I would recommend using this site to the fullest - log log log everything!! Every single bite! Stay within your calorie goal, make healthy choices and exercise. It's that simple! You can do it! :flowerforyou:

i kinda thought 1200 is too low. i talked to a girl body builder and she said anything under 1500 is too low. plus, i think i would starve if it was 1200.

No one really knows their BMR, unless you've been properly tested for it. If you have, you'll know you have. The internet is just going to give you a guide, but it could vary by quite a bit. But, assuming it is failrly accurate, what is you TDEE. Traditionally, if you eat below 15% to 20% of your TDEE, you'll lose weight at a nice slow, steady, healthy rate. It's that simple.

What most people do, is simply calculate their TDEE using www.fitnessfrog.com or any other of the websites that do this, then start with the number it spits out. If no rusults adjust a little bit up or down, until you start getting the results you want.

It is a very slow and steady process. Consistency in your diet is what will eventually get you there. Do not be impatient.

Eat at 15 to 20% less than 2391. Don't eat any exercise calories because you figured them in already. That's it.
