Toning up while pregnant?

I know I am not supposed to actively try to lose weight (have gained too much and gained some back before getting pregnant), but I do want to tone up my thighs, arms, butt, etc. So, I have started exercising again and eating better. Should that help to tone me up? I'm using bands 2-3x/week to do some toning. I guess I've never tried to just tone up instead of trying to lose weight (and hopefully tone up).

Your first place should be talking to your OB/GYN. Pregnancy can be (relatively speaking, of course) a normal course for women, or very dicey, depending on your independent risk factors and situation. You should probably also be talking to a nutritionist who is talking to your OB/GYN.

That being said, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence of women, if not losing weight, not gaining much while pregnant, and engaging in considerable amounts of physical activity (such as pregnant + marathon: http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Moms/marathon-mom-pregnant-woman-amber-miller-finishes-chicago/story?id=14706286#.UKJnX4e_GUQ).

    Talk to your doctor first.

Hey! Yep, what mirthfuldrago said about the doctor. Ok, that being said, I have been doing Summer Sanders Prenatal DVD (got from Amazon). It is great strength training for my arms. On the video, she uses the bands, and at home I use the band and also 10 lbs hand weights, depending on the exercise. Everytime I do the video my arms are sore the next day, in a good way.

Hope this helps and keep up the great work! I am half way through my pregnancy too and for me working out has been really necessary for my yo-yo emotions!
