Punching with weights

Hi all,
I just recently started a mini strength training routine for my back, shoulders and arms that lasts about 15 minutes. I'm very much a beginner when it comes to exercising and sticking with it so I've started with a small routine that I know I can do every night. That being said, last night I decided to throw some punches (at the air of course, like I saw being done on JM 30 Day Shred) while holding 2lb weights. Not sure why I decided to do it with weights in hand but I did.
Does anyone know if this is a good thing? Good for toning? Strength traing? Bad? as in bulking up or anything?

there is absolutely positively no way on earth or middleearth that you will get bulky using 2 pound weights.
also i'd first check to make sure you have correct technique for punching before adding a weight since that can make a huge difference on your joints.0 -
Yeah, you won't bulk up.
You very well good eff up your joints and connective tissue. Be VERY careful jerking weights around.0 -
You can use 5lbs weight and you will just tone up! No worries!
Try shadow boxing with it.0 -
Who exactly are these women who bulk up lifting 2 lbs???0

Just be careful when you throw an uppercut and avoid your jaw. I ended up with a bloody lip once. True story.0

Be careful your grip doesn't fail and you end up lobbing one of the weights into the telly. Not done that myself, but I'd be astonished if someone somewhere hasn't done it.0

the ones who are concurrently eating 3000 calories a day over what they need?
True...wrong "bulk", though. You could eat a surplus of 5000 kcal/day and you're not going to get huge muscles from lifting 2 lb weights.
Sorry, just annoyed that I've opened up 3 threads in this forum today and 2 of them somewhere in the thread mention "women getting HUGE from lifting weights". It's almost like you just look at weights and you get huge! Just curious who these women are? It must be nice as I work my butt off for every ounce of muscle I gain.
Okay, rant over....0 -

LOL! Tomorrow when I do level 3 of 30DS I'm going to have that visual in my head while I'm swinging 3 lbs weights, shadow boxing. I must be doing something because my left elbow muscles are a bit sore today.0 -
When punching with weights.. make sure not to bang your joints! Stop the punch short of 100% extension and you should be good to go. Also, hold onto them suckers, don't want them flying anywhere.0

Thank!!0
