It's just water weight!!!!! People need to put that statement into perspective!! Water weight is still weight! Respect it. Your body is glad when its gone. That water crushes your heart and lungs! It blocks circulation from your legs and feet!!! It helps crush your joints in your hips knees, and ankles. People with excessive water weight have died from heart attacks, lost their feet or legs due to uncontrolled ulcers. When the weight comes off the body doesn't care if its just fat or just water or a combo of both. It just appreciates the relief! Be proud of every pound no matter what that pound is made up of!!! Blessings

Good Morning. I so agree with you. I notice that when I take my water pills this also helps me loose weight as well. I look forward to any other ideas you may have to help loose weight.0

No, I'm pretty sure the body retains water for various reasons. The body is 90% water in the first place, and thus water weight is what it is. It's like breathing. Even people who are within a healthy body composition have water weight fluctations.
Focus on fat loss, not water loss.0 -
is this a troll?0

Whoa! I better stick with wine then just to be safe!!!0 -
Excessive water retention helps kills people everyday!! Its called edema. Morbidly obese people fight it daily. So do people with heart conditions. So when they lose 10 - 15 lbs in their first weeks of weight loss and people tell them its just water weight. They feel a little defeated, when that water is just as important to get off as fat. This journey is not just about fat loss, its about getting your whole body in tune. So no, no troll here. Study and get back to me.0

Amen to that!0

Nice post - water weight is a sign of eating too much food- calling things "Water weight" is an attempt to discount that0

A few extra pounds of water retention after a sodium-heavy meal or around a woman's period is not anything to worry about.0 -

People point out that it's mostly water in those early weeks so that when the losses SLOW DOWN later, the person losing doesn't get discouraged and think they're suddenly doing something wrong.0 -

I have pretty aggressive edema. Trust me, it's just as unattractive as fat.0
-
Actually severe edema can cause all of those things, including skin ulcers, but that would be severe edema not some sodium/hormonal/muscle repair bloat.0

I never said don't drink water! The best way to fight water retention is to drink water!!! If your not drinking enough water your body holds onto all the water it can get. Then the body becomes dehydrated, toxic, and begins to swell with edema. So yes you can be behydrated and holding onto large amounts of water at the same time. Again study and get back to me.0

I don't know if any of this is true, but I'm going to panic just in case.0

I'm grasping for straws here but I think she is referring to when people have a big loss and the phrase it's just water weight comes into play. I know I use the phrase to describe why everytime I restart the eating better or dieting journey (whatever people want to call it) I see huge losses 5-10 lbs in 2 weeks and then it slows to the normal 1-2 a week.
And why is everyone so quick to discount someone who may not ask a question the EXACT way we want to hear it...... bullies!0 -

I do understand the point. I began with a ketogenic diet because I knew it would be diuretic and glycogen depleting which, in turn, was enough of an initial loss to allow me to begin walking comfortably when I was morbidly obese. That first whoosh was as important as any part of my 109 pound loss.0 -
OP: Perhaps you should do a little research yourself before posting something so outrageous.

1. She did not ask any question at all. She made a statement.
2. Really? Come on.0 -
It's just bloating, Not 'waterweight' it's bloat.
You're eating too much if you have 'water weight.'0 -
As a nurse I'm dying over here. To compare edema which stems from other bodily diseases such as CHF and PVD to the water weight people most refer to here after eating or working out are not one in the same. But whatever makes you sleep at night!0

Can we classify edema a little better here???? Dieter's edema is not the same thing as pulmonary edema or cerebral edema for crying out loud.....
With dieter's edema the body holds onto water to replace fat loss in the fat cells. And it's pretty normal for most dieter's to experience this. Some people call it the "whoosh" effect. No weight loss, no weight loss, then WHOOSH, weight loss when the body finally gets rid of the excess water and fat cells.
Dieter's edema is the reason for the saying "weight loss is not linear".
And I have to disagree...all weight is not created equal. Fat weight is WAY worse for you than water weight and to think otherwise is foolish. Or by following the same mantra you are pushing of weight is weight, then why not water weight = fat weight = muscle weight? I guess no one needs to worry about being fat since all weight is created equal.0 -

Re: severe edema, think of a balloon overinflating, the skin will burst causing weeping ulcers...0
