Doing Insanity/P90x but need help!!

hi everybody,
my transformation journey started 8 months ago. Most of my life i was normal not fat but at the same time i wasn't than fit guy.i started doing some exercises at home and managed to lose some K.Gs until i knew Insanity . i was very motivated i started it and gave the exercises 200% of my energy and i think i really dug deep. And the results were amazing (from 85 K.G to 73 K.Gs) and i can see some abs and some muscle definition. Then i decided to take the next step and decided to do P90x. But i wasn't satisfied with the cardio workouts and stopped after 10 days planning to start over it and substituting its Cardio workouts with that of insanity. but the only problem that i'm not sweating any more during P90x workouts i don't sweat except a little bit and during these of insanity i sweat more but much loss during my first round of insanity. am i doing any thing wrong or is this just normal and should i stop doing the normal workouts and do max workouts or what?!

for some people the better shape you get in the harder you have to work to break a sweat. im in the same boat as you i used to sweat alot when i went to the gym but for the last 3 months or so i havent sweat a drop it doesnt mean your not working hard it means your work is paying off

The problem here is you are comparing P90X to Insanity. One focuses on intense cardio movement which gets you sweating while the other is including some weights to help improve overall strength. Also, like James said the better shape you get in your cardiovascular system improves which means your body exerts less energy to accomplish the same tasks from before.

    but
i am not comparing both . i know that this is strength training and the other is cardio. i was talking about the cardio days in p90x which i was sweating much less in them than i used to be during insanity. & now i am sweating much less during insanity than i used in the first round. but i now understnd that working out it's all about sweating.

I finished insanity and started P90x this week and I feel the same. I also find the slower pace of P90x a lot more boring. The hybrid program does look interesting though. I may take a look at doing it that way myself. Thanks!

i think that that will be a very good decision but i want to ask if you'll do the hybrid will you begin with the 1st months' workout or start directly with the max workouts?!

Do you wear a heart rate monitor when you workout? Knowing you HR would let you know if you are working hard enough or not.

Be careful you don't overtrain and burnout. The rest days are built into P90X for a reason. Also, even if yoga is hard, DO IT. I absolutely despise the yoga (and stretch), but I do it because I want to get stronger, more flexible and prevent injury.

I don't know your stats, but 132 sounds pretty low. My resting HR is 55 and when I workout mine ranges from 125-175 depending on the difficulty of the move.

  • If you're telling me that you're doing 120 pull-ups with good form and not sweating then please send me an autographed photo and when you're next international competition is

There is no pure cardio in p90x. P90x is all intervals + the yoga -- even plyometrics and CardioX are actually interval training. If you are not sweating it's simply because you're not working hard enough. You may need to modify the workout, or at least how you're doing it.

Squat deeper, jump higher. Squatting is a great example, because at level X it can gas a fit person quickly but a very slight modification to Y (e.g. less deep where Y < X) can make a newbie able to do it.

I did insanity for 3 weeks but it was frankly boring. Too repetitive. I think i could list all the moves from all the workouts on one sheet of paper. I've been doing p90x with some additional running ( i have a dog so it's part necessity) and after a few rounds of p90x it was getting easier, so i started wearing a weight vest on pull-up days and plyo days. Add 10,20,40 pounds to your body and then tell me you're not sweating.

Another modification I did was inspired by cross-fit. Instead of following the video (or audio after i ripped it) I wrote the moves down on paper (and eventually found a good android app). Then after warming up (even though it's boring it's great for long-term health and injury avoidance) I would do all the moves as fast as I could -- with good form. Instead of upping my weights or increasing my reps or wearing the weight vest i was now staying with the same weights and the same reps, but trying to complete the workout faster and faster. It had two benefits, making me better, but also spend less time in a workout. Mix in some of the resistance days at a standard p90x pace, but increasing your weights to break through plateaus.

I totally get you--I can't do the P90X cardio stuff because it doesn't challenge me at all. I'm starting Insanity Dec. 31 and hoping that will get me going again.

Target HR is determined by age. Try this calculator. You may be on target if your low is 132 when working out. I highly recommend a good HRM (one with a chest strap) if you really want to know if you are on target. This will allow you to check your rate at a glance when you are exercising. The Polar FT4 is good and affordable.

no i am not that champion who can do infinite number of pull ups and push ups. yet iam giving the workout all what i've got and i can see that clearly by the increasing number of reps i couldn't do except 15 push ups now after two weeks i can do 25-30 push ups. so i think i'm doing quite good.and i don't say that i don't sweat at all. i sweat but comparing the amount to previous round of insanity i think they can't be compared

I think you're focusing way too much on the sweat. Sweat is not an indicator of whether or not you are getting a good workout.

Yesterday I did Shoulders and Arms and Ab Ripper X. I didn't sweat much, but my HRM said I burned 630 calories and at some points my HR was up to around 165 (I'm 36, 5'4", female, and weigh 132 pounds). Today I will do Yoga, which feels fairly easy cardio wise but will give me a burn of about 500 in 90 minutes.

Things like the increased ability to do reps or add weight or go faster are what indicate you are getting a good workout. Sweat doesn't mean much. Also, as I said in my edited post above, rest days are important. Over training is counter productive. Do the yoga, stretch, and don't go all out every single day.
  • I sweat the most during Yoga. And when i say sweat i mean that i have to literally mop up the floor. i have to change mats halfway through the movement portion. But i *only* burn about 800-900 calories in yoga, but it makes sense since i have a good amount of muscle mass and flexibility is harder then it used to be. I say *only burn* because If i do plyoX i can easily burn 1000 calories, reaching 1500 if i wear a weight vest. I can get my heart rate up to 170 in plyox if I don't wimp out. I never wear a monitor during yoga but i'm sure it's way less -- it's more of a flop sweat cuz i'm maxing out my entire body's capacity on every move. In plyo i'm only maxing out my legs.

Insanity is about the same as plyoX -- have to wring out the headband (my head is shaved so it's a must), but not the same as yoga.

I've done yoga with friends and been in a more of a demonstration mode -- not pushing myself for every inch and millimeter cuz i'm watching their form and helping them and hardly sweat at all. It's amazing what a little bit extra reach exponentially increases the effort.

Besides the sweat in Yoga I feel weird (good weird) after doing it. I feel like i have literally squeezed all the **** out of every cell in my body and while they are tired they are grateful. I used to say it felt like i was bleeding internally, even have a different taste in my mouth afterwards. But it's good. I always call Yoga my weekly test.

my wife used to hardly sweat -- like the female sidekick in p90x+ hardly does. I just responded to her every time she would say it with "you're not trying hard enough". It must have sunk in cuz now she sweats a lot.
