I'm putting together a booklet thing for my mom since she is trying to lose weight and get healthy. I thought I would prevail on you wonderful people to help me by listing your number 1 tip. Whether it be about fitness, diet, supplements, water - just anything that really helped you be successful.
Thank you in advance.

Come on - not even one person? I know there are a lot of successful people out there, so spill it. I was hoping for a lot of responses so I could make a cool present for her. I'll be your best friend....0

1. Lots of water and try to keep sodium down....
2. Be active -- even if it's just walking!
3. You must put quality foods into your body... a 500 cal meal of mac and cheese is not the same as a 500 cal meal of baked sweet potato, steamed broccoli and a chicken breast. It's NOT all about staying under your calories!0 -
Don't think of it as a diet, it is a permanent lifestyle change. Being healthy has got to be #1 priority.0

1. Educate yourself and figure out what works for you.
2. Stick to it.
While a tip booklet sounds like a neat gift idea, I honestly think it's more beneficial to read something more educational (see my #1 tip...), like introduction to calorie counting, macros, basic physiology, exercise programs, etc.0 -
play this tool like a game..under the red line0

Don't let one bad day ruin your motivation.
Look at how far you've come, not how far you have to go.0 -
I try and eat more protein ..it helps make me feel fuller longer.0

Funny...a Diet is your regular nutritional intake.
#1 Tip. Realization.
#2 Tip. Choose
#3 Tip. ACTION0 -
Moderation - extremes burn you out and are harder to maintain in the long term.0

Tip #1: You do not talk about Fight Club.0

You want to lose weight not loose weight x0

Successful weight loss begins and ends in your mind. Work on establishing a healthy relationship with food and exercise and that's half the success right there. The rest is feeding your body healthy, nutritious foods and giving it the exercise it needs.0
-
1. Fiber is what keeps you full.
2. You can eat all the raw veggies you want since they are so calorically low, your body actually burns calories consuming them
3. You don't really have to worry about sodium or sugar intake as long as you have clean blood work (according to my dietician). You should just know that eating more sodium makes you retain water.
4. Get rid of all the junk in your cabinets and stock up on quick snacks and if you need to, pre-portion them yourself into ziplock baggies for grab-n-go type snacks.
5. GET YOURSELF A FOODSCALE! That is the most important one in my opinion! It helps you to REALLY keep track of how much you're eating, and control portions!
Hope this all helps!
Feel free to add me :-)0 -
Dnt drink your calories ie sugary sodas0

Don't "eat your feelings" (i.e., binge eat or comfort yourself with food). There are much more constructive/less destructive ways to handle unresolved conflicts and recurring stress.0

Drink a glass of water before having a snack or a meal.0

I am just sort of starting out but my dad recently lost a lot of weight and he said the number one tip was just to be consistent .. even when it's hard, your not seeing result's or having a bad day just suck it up and keep going.. those are the days that really count.. also If you have a slip up don't throw the whole day away and think 'well iv'e already gone over cals, may as well have ice cream' just accept it and move on
Good luck to your mum
oh and also.. what a wonderful thing to do for her0 -

Walk, walk a lot
Eat in moderation0 -
1. it's not a diet - diet's don't work. it MUST be a lifestyle change.
2. incorporate more activity into your daily life -- park farther from the store, take the stairs, etc.
3. low fat is passe - eat healthy fats.
4. High protein, high fiber.
5. eat your bmr - not some ridiculous low calorie count.0 -
Super Foods - Kale, Cacao nibs, Manuka Honey, Savi Seeds, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Goji berries, noni fruit, managosteen fruit, acai berries.
Eating high protein high fiber foods, getting enough healthy fats and cutting trans fats, drinking lots of water.
Eating less and moving more.0 -
1. Sort your diet out, successful weight loss is 80% about what you put in your mouth. Educate yourself on portion control. Eat more foods with low calorie high nurtient values, lean protein and some good fats. Eat less foods that are calorie dense but don't cut out anything that you can't live without. Be honest about what you are eating.
You have to be ready and you have to want it0 -
Learn to love healthy food! Yes, you CAN eat under your calorie limit with unhealthy foods, but it'll be way harder to get all the nutrients you need from your diet, plus eating healthy really helps with overall health. Trust me, after a while, you won't even care if everyone around you is eating chocolate and crisps, because you know that you feel ten times better they do :P
Unhealthy foods high in saturated fats and sugars really do make you feel bad.
If you're having trouble meeting your calorie goal (which I do quite a lot), don't just binge on sweets and things! Still go for the healthy option. Fats an be healthy too, just go for less saturated types! (Avocados are your new best friend)0 -
Eat mostly things that resemble what they started out as, and move your a**.0
-
Keep it simple. Eat well, eat a reasonable amount of calories and don't sweat it if you're slightly above or below your numbers (carbs, fats, proteins and calories). It all balances out if you take note of it and fix it next week.0
-
Weigh and measure everything.
Log your meal BEFORE you eat it, so you know what you are eating.0 -
#1 (Most importantly) - Love yourself regardless of what weight you are
#2 Eat to fuel your body
#3 Eat every few hours so you don't get to the point where you're starving... this helps to avoid bad decisions.
#4 Don't deprive yourself0 -
Dont eat or do anything you hate. Find things that will be entertaining and yummy to keep you from falling back into your old habits0
-
Buy a food scale!0
