What Can I Do For Soreness?

I'm looking for a little advice. I've been athletic my entire life and ever since I could remember I always got "freakishly" sore. When I was a kid I ran track and played ball, etc. I always got so sore sometimes I couldn't walk. Cut to.. Almost 40 years old. I really am about to kick it in to high gear, maybe compete in figure next year. But whether it's cardio or weightlifting my soreness is overwhelming at times. Don't get me wrong, that soreness after a workout is actually one of my favorite feelings in the world, but I look like a little old lady walking around sometimes. But regardless to whether or not I take it easy on myself or go hard... I get really sore. Any tips on how to relieve the soreness?
Am I the only one that gets this sore??? I think most of all I just want to know if it's normal.

Thanks in advance all!
Happy Lifting!

    Hi!!

I'm on it too! Sometimes the soreness, feeling that I like too, is too much and nearly like I'm ill!
I need to stretch two time more that normal people to avoid that. I stretch half time of my workout duration. If I workout 45 minutes, I stretch 20 minutes properly.

Even with that I can sometimes feel the burn!!!

I start to live with the burn permanently... hahaha!
Keep going girl and feel free to add me as friend as we can support each other on big soreness days!!!

    You got it!

Stupid amounts of protein (230g in a day) and a really good sleep work when I'm really sore.
  • Hot baths or showers.

Not really here to say anything about the soreness I just wanted to say I creeped your profile because I didn't know if your profile pic was you. Then I read that you have always had "ugly duckling" syndrome :noway: !! Whoever made you feel that way needs a butt kicking. You are beautiful. So glad you are breaking free of those negative feelings. Blessings to you on your fitness journey.

i think i get more sore than most people too. just tried an epsom salt bath the other day. felt great. seriously considered calling in sick to work b/c every part of me hurt after a way too hard bike ride on a trail. took the bath and felt better immediately. it was based on advice i have read here.

i also read on here that many heavy lifters drink chocolate milk after a workout. never tried it, but people on the boards seem to think it works.

    good luck.

I used to battle with soreness, and here's what helped me:

    1. Eat more protein. (this was the number one thing that helped me)
    2. stretching and light cardio... sometimes going for a walk will ease stiffness simply because it gets my blood moving.
    3. Ease into working out. Let your first few workouts be lighter and shorter than what you intend to do later just to build a little muscle memory.
    4. Sleep 8 hours a night
    5. Drink a lot of water.
    6. Take a bath with Epsom salts in it.

The protein and water were the most helpful... along with trying not to overdo things. The other stuff, like rest, epsom salts, etc would help a little bit, but I'd still be somewhat sore.
