I've never liked the word "skinny." In the past, I'd substituted "thin" in that same phrase--"Nothing tastes as good as thin feels." Seems to have fewer negative connotations attached. I think I'd substitute "fit and healthy" in there now. In fact, I just did--I keep a document full of motivational quotes for when I need a little pick-me-up.

I want to be skinny! And I'd rather be skinny than eat three cinnabon treats like I used to-- that's how I interpret the saying. There is nothing wrong with being skinny, and skinny does not automatically mean no muscle and not healthy. I want to be skinny (as in the opposite of fat)! I'd prefer "fit" though, because I like my brain to see the word "strong" as my goal because I totally agree with you -- It is mentally easier to have a goal such as "size four" or "be able to lift X much" or "run X much" -- because our view of what "skinny" is changes all the time. There is a point where we can never be satisfied! So it's all about keeping a healthy mind.

But, I get what you are saying. It can be unhealthy. I want to be skinny, strong, and healthy. I want to do it right.
I have a girl that I work with that tries to rub it in my face cause she is steadily dropping the pounds. Making fun of my 1- 2 little pounds a week and how if she ran 6 - 14 miles a day she would be so, so skinny. But, she ain't doing it right. She only eats ice, all day. That is sick. I feel bad for her and have tried to tell her, but she won't listen. She just thinks I am jealous.0 -
I so love this! I have no desire to be skinny, but I do want to be thinner and more healthy. I refuse to deprive myself or miss out on life while on this journey.0

I am skinny. And strong. And healthy. And quite pleased with my body, both how it looks and what it can do.
And I approve of the OP's message. And I wish her strength in the coming years with her pre-teen.

No offense to Ms. O but it seems but being the most public yo-yoer of all time, IMO, maybe instead of pawning that phrase onto millions she should have been saying, "Eat more protein, lift weights, read a book or two on what good nutrition is and aim to be strong and stay that way!"0 -
Ugh. Someone in this thread said bacon, and now I'm craving a BLT in the worst way. AFTER I've eaten my healthy lunch I packed today.

While I've never cared for the phrase, I would think anyone who has been skinny and fit knows that there is some truth to the statement "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels". It is this knowledge that makes us regret having one too many pieces of pizza or 5 cookies instead of 2.0

Truthfully, having been skinny, having been normal weight, having been chubby... when I (foolishly) thought my only choices were (1) starve and be thin and (2) eat what you want and be a little overweight... I said, "F this!" and went back to eating what I wanted.
I'm really, really glad I learned (3) eating RIGHT doesn't mean being hungry, doesn't mean giving up foods you like, doesn't mean being miserable, but does mean pushing yourself to be a little more active (which, as it turns out, is actually kind of fun!).0 -

Slim people can be just as sick as obese people. Particularly if they're eating the standard north american pyramid diet.
In addition to lots of wisely done strengthening, cardio and stretching, you may want to consider a plant-based, nutrient-rich diet. If you choose to eat this way, you'll be healthy like crazy!!!!
Dr. Oz, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Dr. Robert O. Young and a host of others all recommend this way of eating, over the standard north american food pyramid. Thousands of people have regained their health by following this way of eating.
For those who just want to lose weight.....I've lost an average of 2.95 pounds a week, EATING THIS WAY and I've never been healthier. I know this to be true because I get my blood analyzed regularly by a Live Blood Analyst. I can SEE the improvements.

Discipline is required. Deprivation is not.
I did stop eating Pop Tarts. To be honest, I never thought they were all that tasty, just convenient.
I've recently STARTED eating Pop Tarts. I never really cared for them until I got my daughter some of the holiday flavors to try. Gingerbread and Pumpkin Pie. They are so good that I've taken to having one with a cup of decaf coffee in the evening. I'll be sad when the holidays are over. :laugh:0 -

I've never much cared for that phrase. Probably because I've always been more interested in being strong than skinny (also because I've eaten bacon).

This weekend I tried an off brand fiber bar to save a few bucks over Fiber One and Fiber Plus both of which I think taste as good as a candy bar. But this new one was DISGUSTING. If I had to eat that to lose weight then forget it.0 -

Thanks for putting this in here. Maybe it sums up a portion of what I'm saying: how skinny feels is maybe not gonna last for a long time as a motivator.

I loathe Kate Moss, but I quite like the phrase.
Substitute "slim" for "skinny," and there is a lot of truth to it. I have been slim (am starting to get there again) and I have been several stone overweight (gained while breastfeeding). The former does indeed feel much better.
I love huge meaty Cornish pasties, but I'm not going to get to my goal if I eat them every day or even most days, because I cannot physically exercise off the extra 1000+ calories (thus consumed in the space of two minutes!) in the hour or so a day I have free for exercise.
Mindful eating is an excellent thing. I know 'cause I'm pretty ****e at it.0 -
