Standing vs sitting

It may seem silly, but I would like 'standing' to be included in the Exercise. I love to work out but I work 12 hour shifts and have been standing for 2-3 hours with light pacing.

Include that in your overall activity level rather than tracking it separately if it's routine.

Probably improved blood circulation. Also, I tend to slouch when I sit for too long and I don't want to be an old man with a weird hump.

The first reply was the correct answer to your question. Look at the different activity levels in MFP for setting up your profile. There will be one that is for people that have jobs that have them on their feet all day and it will automatically adjust your daily calories up to allot for that. If it's something you're doing everyday for work it shouldn't be logged as exercise because it's just part of your standard TDEE already. That's why some people are giving you a hard time.

Thanks that is helpful. I do workout and such when I am not at work. My job requires 12 hours of pretty much sitting so I'm cutting corners where I can.

And there is no-one else like that? It is pointless to log standing and it should already be factored into your activity level.

standing with light pacing for 2-3 hours is probably at the most only burning about the equivalent of 1 good sized avocado extra (300 calories). i dont know if that's enough to bump your activity level up

well, this is my personal opinion. I used to do a job where I had to stand also. In order to make it count, I would move around and walk back and forth. With the help of a pedometer I learned that I was walking upto 5 miles a day and I could justify logging that in (though I only logged half of it most of the time).

See if you can walk around rather than just stand there. What kind of work do you do and we can see if its worth logging in :)

    Good luck

Agreed! A Fitbit will track what you're REALLY doing physically. LOVE mine!

911 Dispatcher. Work 12 hours shifts stand and pace for about 4 hours a shift. and I have added pacing quite a bit. I also work out 2-3 times a week doing cardio and lift alternating.
