I am always confused about carbs...i seem to always have between 150-200 gr a day sometimes less others more...its never over what mfp sets for me anyway.but i have freak out days whem i think shud I be doing low carb etc, I get my carbs from fruit amd wholegrain foods and very rarely from treats such as biscuits and cakes...i have lost weight doing that so am I being stupid for freaking out over it?

Sometimes I feel like going low carb too, but it just doesn't work for me. I think a healthy lifestyle should consist of fruit, veggies and wholegrains, so don't freak out :) (low carb supporters, please don't yell at me now :flowerforyou: )

I lost 20 lbs in 2,5 months, which is fine by me :-) Have a look at my diary if you want to.

By the way, I would love to support you and help you in reaching your goals, but your privacy settings are really strict :-) I'm afraid I won't be of much help like this...
  • If you're seeing progress by doing that then I don't see any reason to freak out. Our bodies need carbs to function & with the way it sounds, it looks like you're making good choices so keep it up.

I dont try to aim for low carb, but I do tend to stay under 200 just because I dont care much for breads.

But I am accepting the fact that foods dont make people fat, overindulgence and lack of activity does.

Although I do accept the thought that there are foods that are unhealthy.

MFP allows a lot of carbs but not much protein. You can customise your settings. I have mine set to 40%carbs : 30%protein : 30%fat which seems to work well for me. It's not low-carb as I eat rice and wholegrains and all the fruit and vegetables but it helps me to keep away from empty calorie sweet foods.

I'm low carb but just because it helps control my hunger and keep me in calorie defecit so I can lose weight.

If you are coping just fine on what you are eating and you are losing any weight you want to then just keep doing what you are doing :)

thats what I have done but I am struggling to get protein in :( so ideas for high protein breakfasts and snacks are more than welcomed :)

I can eat up to 155 carbs per day, so I set my standards to 50% carbs, 25% protein, and 25% fat. I know, it does seem like a lot, but 156 was the closest number I could get to the 155. What helps me is spreading the food throughout the day so I don't get hungry on a constant basis. This is just me, though. :glasses:

    Protein bomb sources:
    Tuna
    salmon (zero carbs)
    chicken
eggs (hard boiled - eat only the whites if you want low fat)
    protein powder / protein bars
    beans
    greek yoghurt

I can't come up with any more right now :-p

What sannsk said for protein. For breakfast you can't beat eggs and bacon in my opinion or Fat free Greek yoghurt and fruit. Cottage cheese is another good protein snack. I like it with an apple.

I wouldn't worry at all about the fruit, but if you start to have problems reaching your goals maybe reconsider more of the grains? Anyways, as long as you're still losing and moving in the right direction, who cares? :)
