Travelling from UK to US - need advice!

I live in the UK and will be travelling to Minneapolis next April for a training event. Can anyone who lives there give me some advice on the best/most economical way to get from St Paul Airport to Comfort Inn, Plymouth? I have tried looking at the websites for train and bus travel, but can't make any sense out of them! I know there is no substitute for local knowledge, so if you can give me any tips, I'd really appreciate it.

That is a trip of about 25 miles - you migh want to find out if there is a courtesy shuttle (call Comfort Inn ?)

A taxi is the next option, they are not super cheap, but I presume you are on expenses ?

If you have never driven in the US, escaping from MPLS airport is probably not the place to learn. I used to go to MPLS once a month for several years.....

I don't live there, but if you aren't used to the US, don't use the buses, not half as easy to use as buses in the UK...I'm thinking getting a taxi is the safest, less drama way to travel, but a taxi will be expensive for that far of a commute. I second emaren, call the hotel and see if they have some sort of a shuttle if you don't need to go anywhere but from the airport and back.

I advise against renting a car and driving here!

Hey Smudge, can you message me and tell me which of these two terminals you are arriving at? I have only been there once, ut I'm more than happy to do a search and mapquest to see how far it is, and that will tell me what will be best for you to do:

    Terminal 1-Lindbergh
    4300 Glumack Drive
    St. Paul, MN 55111
    612-726-5555

    Terminal 2-Humphrey
    7150 Humphrey Drive
    Minneapolis, MN 55450
    612-726-5555

I'm thinking a shuttle or taxi, but I will find out for you if I know where you are landing. And yes, not trying to negotiate that traffic is best!!

Too bad you are not coming to Georgia!

I remember the first time I flew to the US, it was pretty daunting......

I live here now and the call cost me nothing at all, so why not help out a fellow Brit ?

emaren, i think you are a wonderful guy. some people do not recognize class when they see it.
  • THANK YOU everyone for your replies, especially Emaren for making that call for me, I really appreciate it. I'm not on expenses unfortunately so am looking for a cheap option, but quite daunted by the prospect of a 12 hour flight followed by negotiating public transport with luggage in a foreign land! So a taxi may turn out to be my only option. Maybe I can negotiate a fixed price with a cab company in advance.

  • Hey Lisa, thanks for your kind offer. I will find out which terminal I'll be coming into and message you. x
