bakery style cake
my husbands birthday was a few days ago, and his parents got him a cake from a local bakery.. i LOVE the way they taste, and my kids opted for cake instead of pie tomorrow..anyone have ideas as to how to make a boxed cake that tastes similar to a bakery ?? i found so many by googling the same question, but i dont want to mess it up..help anyone ?:flowerforyou:

What kind of bakery style cake? Chocolate, vanilla, lemon, yellow....
What kind of frosting (really sweet and kind of gritty (american style) or sweet and smooth (buttercream, varying degrees of sweet/richness based on french, italian or swiss style), or sweet and fluffy (boiled icing, like a cross between a marshmallow and meringue)?
Any filling (custard or ganache) or just the frosting?0 -

Step 1: Look at the directions on the cake mix, you choose the flavor
Step 2: Add one more egg (or add 2 if you want it to be very rich),
Step 3: Use melted butter instead of oil and double the amount,
Step 4: Instead of water, use milk.
Step 5: Mix well and bake for the time recommended on the box.0 -

I do steps 1, 2, and 4, but I use the regular amount of oil, not butter, and ADD a box of pudding mix (vanilla for vanilla cake, chocolate for chocolate cake)0 -

im not worried about frosting and filling..i just want it to taste like cake from lets say walmart, or any grocery store..and its chocolate0 -

Use full fat ingredients. Add an extra egg. When I made a chocolate cake for my husband's birthday, I used cream instead of milk and I doubled the cocoa. It really depends on what sort of taste you're going for. I never found Walmart's cakes to be very good.0

I have tried this and it is wonderful. Start with a white cake mix. Add one cup all purpose flour, one cup of sugar, 3/4 tsp salt.Whisk all that together. Use 4 egg whites, 4tbsp oil (about 1/3 cup), 1 1/3 cups milk, 1 cup sour cream, and 1 tsp vanilla. Beat with a mixer about 2 minutes. I have made this as cupcakes and they bake at 325 for about 25-30 minutes. I would just adjust for a full cake based on the size pan you choose. I usually fill these cupcakes with raspberry or lemon filling and frost with butter cream frosting. I will not use another recipe and I promise, people love them! I bake and give them away because I love to bake, but it is dangerous for me. I cannot have these sitting around!0
