Hi everyone,
I'm having massive trouble beating my sugar cravings. I've been at this for about 18 months and have been able to mostly keep myself in check, but just recently I can't seem to be able to help myself! Eating chocolate and way too much dried fruit isn't doing me any good.
I do a bit of catering, so I have to keep chocolate and dried fruits constantly on my shelves. So I can't not have it in the house
How can I beat this? Would my body be low in some kind of vitamin/mineral...? Any tips and tricks are greatly appreciated!

I'm glad you posted this! I'm going through the EXACT same thing which has lead to binging late in the evening. I read that cutting out simple sugars all together might help. The first 48-72 hours could be the hardest. Here is the article:

u know what? I got this nonfat yogurt at Costco and it was too high in sugar so I got rid of the sugar thing in my food profile.....0

You could try brighter light, if this is a recent problem.
A good calcium/magnesium supplement (preferably not carbonate) is worth a shot -- most of us could use a little more, anyway, and magnesium is one of the goodies in chocolate.
Berries and Greek yogurt are a good way of getting enough fruity goodness.
When you do have dried fruit, you could try having some nuts or cheese, too, to minimize the sugar rush.
I usually am OK if I get enough protein and green veg and don't eat too many refined carbs; slip up, and I get killer cravings.0 -
what about trying gum or a piece of candy? I struggle with this too but my issue is pop rather than sweets.0

Maybe a substitution for the sugar? You can add Stevia or Coconut Palm sugar to your baking/food etc for a healthier alternative. I especially like the coconut sugar. Tastes good. Low rating on the glycemic index.0

Why don't you give yourself a daily allowance, hopefully that might help. Or you could tell yourself that you are allergic to chocolate and dried fruit.0

Something that I do when I can't avoid people bringing unhealthy sugary snacks into the house is simply to cover them with a napkin or cloth. It works for me for the most part, but sometimes you just have to give in and have a little! also try gum, it works great to keep your mouth occupied.0

I read that green tea helps with cravings, so I tried that. I read eating a diet of fresh foods and cutting out processed foods and diet drinks helped, so I tried all that. I haven't had a craving for months now but unfortunately, because I experimented with these things all at the same time I don't know what it was that worked.
I agree that it takes about 78 hours to get out of your system so try going 'cold turkey' for a while and see what happens.

The only way i can stop craving sugar is by avoiding it completely, this also includes refined carbs as they tend to start the craving too.
I only have to cut it out for a few days and the craving disappears.
My substitution is now fat free greek yogurt with honey or a flavoured yogurt..0
