How do I add an exercise like "cleaning?"

I searched and found "cleaning" but can't figure out how to add to my daily exercise.

it should be listed under cardio--light, or moderate, they even have moving furniture and/or boxes. Put in the minutes and it figures out the calories burned. hope that helps.

after you search for it and it says no results found, look down to the bottom of the screen where it says "can't find what you are looking for? add it. click on this part and it allows you to enter what you want.

but cleaning is in there, so I don't know if you were only using that for an example. but it should have given you an option for ligt/moderate or vigorous effort

i dont think its neccesary to add regular daily activites asd excercise. i would just skip it and not bother...unless you were doing jumping jacks and burpess while washing your floor! lol

Cleaning is work. If you aren't answering the question, just don't comment.

To make sure it's added to your daily exercises list, you just have to put what minutes you cleaned when you find it, then it should end up in your list the next time you go to look.

Is cleaning something you do not normally do? If you clean regularily then why bother adding it. Unless you were perhaps scrubbing down walls, painting or something.

I did cleaning and stuff before MFP and see it as part of "normal" daily activity. If I spent half a day moving furniture and boxes and stuff, then I'd possibly log that.

It depends how you described yourself when you joined MFP. If you said you were "sedentary" then you do need to add in exercise like cleaning, if you do much of it. If you described yourself as "active", then yes, it's already accounted for in your day's calorie allowance.

How RUDE! Seeing as you know absolutely NOTHING about the OP's lifestyle who are you to judge what they do or do not log as exercise? Maybe they are set to sedentary or cleaning is their job? Or seeing as they are new to this maybe this is exercise to them. Far too many judgemental "perfect" people on here now!

Personally, I wouldn't add it in as exercise.
I think that kind of stuff should factored into your daily activity level.
I've noticed that MFP is either way under or way over on telling you how many calories
you should 'eat back' so I like to play it safe!!! LOL.

Whoa! Calm down girl. If cleaning is their job, then their activity level should not be sedentary. Also, considering the fact that MFP overestimates calories burned, logging normal things like cleaning is MOST LIKELY just going to give an overestimated caloric increase, thus setting back their weight loss.

Personally, I wouldn't log cleaning unless I was working at it hard enough to get my heart rate up, and officially classify it as cardio. If it's a major cleaning job and you're really putting some elbow grease into it, getting your heart rate up, and working your muscles, I'd say go ahead. Be careful though, many folks when cleaning aren't doing it for a solid amount of time, and pause a lot in between tasks, so a time count might be difficult to come about. Maybe just consider it some bonus calories burned, so you'll just get to your goal faster- you won't have to stress about logging them then, or worry about accuracy, it's strictly a bonus. :)

I personally would not add cleaning as excercise unless it was real heavy spring clean,
    Moving furniture type :)

All the people saying they wouldn't log it, that wasn't even the question, maybe some people need a reading lesson, the guidelines say "Please stay on-topic within a forum topic" the topic is HOW TO log it, not your opinion on if it counts

to answer your question...with out my own two cents... cleaning is under the cardio section...there should be two different ones "light, moderate" and "vigorous" click on the one that pertains to you and put the minutes ad it will give you calories burned.

    hope that helps :)

When I had to add cleaning it was because I had my activity level set too low. I even counted washing up (and continued to lose more rapidly than mfp suggested).

Please follow the technical advice given if you mean you seldom clean, and perhaps go up an activity level if you will feel like you're starving if you don't log it.

I've never understood why so many people are so quick to add cleaning as "exercise". The only cleaning I ever log as exercise is washing my entire car by hand and cleaning the inside.. that's because I actually work up a sweat doing it. How does vacuuming and dusting burn calories enough to be counted as exercise? Why not just consider it a bonus for the day? Just my opinion, do what you want.
